My 5 1/2 month old golden retriever has been on royal canin maxi junior but produces a lot of loosish poo on it. I have been recommended trying Techni-cal. Does anyone have any experience of this food and should I go for puppy, large breed puppy (there doesn't seem to be much difference) or even adult? Also quite happy to receive different recommendations- the whole thing is making my head spin!

Sorry I haven't any advice re the tecni-cal, in fact I haven't even heard of it.
I am having exactly the same problems with my 4 1/2 month old pup also on Royal Canin Maxi Junior, and am thinking of trying him on Arden Grange.

Oh that's interesting about your pup too. it is almost as if the maxi junior has got too much useless filler. Milo was getting quite bloated and farty on it until I put him on very small amounts (only 175 gr twice a day) which made the poo a bit more solid but lots of it. He is however growing about a kg per week so he seems okay in himself.

I sorry, I don't know anything about Techni-cal.  My pup was on Nutro puppy lamb and rice til 12 months then I changed to Arden Grange adult L&R.  Both of mine love it.

However, I was reading my old emails earlier this evening to check something for a friend with a puppy and realised my w/h vizsla was still on 3 meals a day at 5 1/2 months!  If it helps he weighed app 15.5kg then and was on 135g of Nutro per meal.

I also found an email to my breeder to say that he was a bit loose, then a bit ribby.  When I looked closer at that period of emails it seems that a few of us from the same litter were experiencing the same things between 5 and 6 months.  The dogs were having growth spurts and then flat periods so we needed to adjust food amounts quite regularly. 

If mine had loose motions for a day or two, I'd ease back on the food by a few grammes and that usually helped. :)

When I read my old emails I realise that it all made my head spin - there are so many things to think about and so many decisions to make aren't there?!!
