We have a dog nearby, a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Papillion.
Does anyone know of a breeder or where we can obtain this variety of dog from?

As this is likely to be a miss-mate you are unlikely to find the same again and if you did find someone who had pups from this cross, it would be unlikely that any would be the same as your neighbours dog. Only hope both dogs ability to be noisy has not been "improved" .

Correct me if I am wrong here but is there such a breed that you have mentioned or do you mean a mongrel. Hate to use the word but it is true,
Why would you want a x breed ( If that is the term) Have one or the other thats what I say
Good luck with your search, but I do not think you will find many dogs out there like that

As I understand it from 'listening to everyone on here for months, now:
Crossbreed is the results of two (recognized) breeds of dog mating with one another-- Lurchers, really fit into this, right Phil? ;)
Mongrel --- well, it's either a mystery or subsequent generations of mixing ;) (personally, I prefer American term of "Mutt" or "Heinz 57" than mongrel --it's only used for insults where I grew up ;) )

I like crossbreeds, but never knew the term for them before here :D :D :D In the US, everyone who doesn't have a pedigree or a proper breed lineage is a general "Mutt" without any respect  So now I have proper crossbreeds and can hold my head high :) :D :D

Pedigree dogs are bred - same breed to same breed.
Cross breeds are bred - one pure pedigree to another pure pedigree.
Mongrels are bred - one cross breed to another cross breed or one mongrel to another or even one cross breed to a pure pedigree or a cross breed to a mongrel.
All have the potential of being good dogs, but it is only with the pedigree that you can be more or less sure what you are getting. Even with a well bred pedigree strange things can happen as regards the conformation, colour or temperment.

Do we all agree on that we should be trying to breed (mutts, mongrels) out and have only pure bred or x bred dogs
Like Jackie said you know what you are getting when you have a pedigree, you get chance to study the breed you know its traits etc

DOGS, I don't think we are able to tell others how to act. We can only try to explain the situation and hope that most people will think before acting. And lets face it what we think important is not always agreed to by others. We can only try. And, of course, we may be wrong. Ja:)kie

Dogs,"Why would we want a crossbreed?" Why would you want sibes? Each to their own, horses for courses etc. Whats wrong with a crossbreed or a mongrel? Tell me one specific thing thats bad about them (other than you cant win CCs with them) Yes sara you are right about Lurchers , only it gets a bit more confusing as you go along!! A ( say) bedlington x grey is a lurcher, and also a grey x beardie /border is a lurcher but it involves three breeds. However if you cross two sighthound together, ie grey and wolfhound it is technically termed as a long dog and not a Lurcher!!

Nothing is wrong with a mongrel/crossbreed a dogs a dog at the end of the day no matter what lines it is from etc. I just think it is best to keep to pedigrees that come up with breeds such as a labradoodle/goldendoodle etc. There are so many mongrels out there why breed more?

(sigh) Phil, I was just beginning to understand Lurchies and now you throw another mixed term into the mix  Never fear, I'm not overloaded with info --- yet ;) :D

No, I am afraid we do not all agree :o

I would wish that all dogs were carefully bred, reared and homed. Most cross breeds and Mongrels are almost certainlythe result of somebody's lack of care and responsibility to their pet (yes I know some purebreds are bred this way too).
Also as we live in a materialistic society these poor mites are often treated as worthless and expendable. Though thre does seem to be a monetary value on any cross that can be give a cutesy name, and pseudo breed status. Also a worrying trend and market for Crosses of large Bull and Molloser breeds.
In a country like Finalnd for example most of the dog population is pedigree. It seems to be a cultural thing, and also partly environmental.

Also here in Germany...ditto.
I found out the other day that it is very illegal to abandon your dog without proper surrendering to a new owner or a shelter. Germans ignore some laws, but this seems to be one they really follow, at least in this region. Hence, my never seeing a stray dog here in over 4 years.
Dogs are also taxed due to breed size and how many are in a household. So having a 'bunch' is not common either. We're exempt due to our 'status' here, but there would be some beggared Americans if they had to pay say for having three mastiffs at one time every single year

PFFTTTHHH! :P :P :P
Ask questions anytime Jackie!!!! :D :D :D Everyone else does ;) :)
Besides, it probably would not have shown up in an English dictionary, since there's a completely different meaning...only an American one.
Never knew there was such a difference between our two 'lands prior to coming on here'... and for interesting verbage, go talk with an Auzzie. I kept asking my visitors a couple of weeks ago what they meant :D
Think of it this way, y'all are preparing me for when I visit/go live over in your fair Island ;) :D

Hi Sara
I didn't know about German dog taxes.
All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not in Germany with my Wolfies! I'd have to get a second mortgage!
