Does anyone have any knowledge on this very confusing subject?? I no abit about regular dog insurance as i have had this for 5 years with Bo, but when we adopted Fudge we were given 6 weeks free charity cover, from battersea, as he is coming home today, i checked with the royal veterinary college about his insurance, they have scared the pants off me saying he may not be covered for the first 7/14 days, i no this can be the case when you purchase your own dog insurance, but this was stated to us. As i can not find any clauses in the details battersea dogs home gave us, and wondered if anyone could shed any light if they have rehomed an animal through homes and centres like battersea and needed to make a claim. I have emailed petplan and await there reply, i have also checked on website but this only refers to "normal" insurance policies. Any help/advice greatly received.
Thanks Diane

I am not an expert, but I think generally when you get a puppy from breeder insurance is activated straight away and will pay out as long as condition wasn't present at the time you got them - so I would think that would be the same for puppy from rescue too. It's the insurance you take out yourself that generally has the 7\14 day thing - so you can't think 'my dog is coming down with something I had better get some insurance' - so I think you would be alright. I am no expert - just going off experience - so you need to wait for Petplan's reply to be sure.

diane74  I would contact battersea dogs home an enquire, they maybe able to help you deal with the insurance company.

that why i always say to my puppy owner when they get their 6 week free cover,if they taking out another pollicy with another company 16 day before the free one runns out,so you are coverd with both.for 16 day.so if there a vet claim then you are coverd with the free one untill the second one active at 16 days later

Your right munrogirl76, you might not think your an expert but you no your stuff!! lol. I finally got a response from pet plan who said we would be covered from day one of adoption, but of course it depends on if we except your claim, standard spiel i guess. But it definitely was a worry of our minds.
Thanks for the response.
