Topic Dog Boards / Health / GLAUCOMA TEST *AGAIN!!!"

My boy was tested CLEAR for the glaucoma test l£40 ast year Now we are informed that it is now going to be moved to schedule A and we will have to have it done again to go on k/c reg certificate . It cost me £40 last time it seems a bit much to be expected to have to pay again Does any other breed have this problem?

Yes Flatcoats had the same situation some years ago when we were on the schedule for breeds under investigation and then we got moved to the schedule for breeds affected. Are you sure it costs £40? I am sure if you get it done at an eye testing session it is slightly cheaper? Last June we were charging £34 for a test, which included a small fee to pay for the hire of the hall as well as the testing session we were holding in Haddenham, Bucks. (Our next session is on Tuesday Evening 7th October)

This is the first I've heard of this Terri !!  Sorry won't be doing all mine again.  The only one that will be done is Calida next month as it will be her first time.  I usually pay about £34 too.

Hi

It's due to go onto Schedule A in January 2009, this has been put back a couple of times due to different testers grading differently.

Have you received the August report from the health co-ordinators as it states there will be no retrospective testing i.e. earlier tests not on KC reg.  I know a few people on the parent breed club committee who are up in arms about this but there seems no way around it I'm afraid.

Direct quote -

"There is no provision for retrospective certification under the Eye Scheme, when Schedule B conditions move to Schedule A - chaos would rule if there was and, in addition, we would not be following the principles of   certification. For example, the owners of any breed with a congenital hereditary problem moved from B to A would expect exactly the same treatment (CEA in Lancashire Heeler, MRD in Labrador and Golden Retriever are the most recent examples).

The move to annual updates of the Schedules allows plenty of time for explanation to owners and places us all in a better position in relation to the necessary data gathering. In addition to the information from clinical cases, it also hoped that owners will present the dogs that are to be used for breeding for gonioscopy, prior to January 1st 2009, even though they know that another examination for certification will be required once the shift from B to A occurs".

so does this mean in simple terms that although my dog was tested for glaucoma and results were clear ,(and this was only done last year) that i have to pay and get it done all again
Because whoever i spoke to said i would not need to get it done again

I would imagine only if you need it to show on the pups registrations.

There should be no problem showing new owners or if used at stud giving a copy of the clear cert to bitch owners to show pup buyers that in fact the dog had a current clear certificate.

This is no different to what I had to do when using an overseas dog to show that he was Hip and eye tested as these results are not put on the KC records.

Surely the testing is the same and result the same whether the condition is on schedule A or B.

Basically if you want it recording on the registration certificate - yes - really rubbish situation but unfortunately that is the way it seems to be.

Why can't we just send in copies of the form?
- By briedog [gb] Date 14.10.08 14:54 UTC
told you.

we only got to redo the test if you want the result put on the reg forms,
when i did gollie and tangle they pass but the bva wasnt reg it at the time.
you got proof to show that they have pass to show the puppies owners,

Down to the KC and BVA unfortunately.

Basically different testers have been grading by different means - some on a sliding scale and some pass or fail.  When it moves to schedule A all testers will score by the same means therefore the test will either be black or white rather than with a gaping grey area as it is at present.

This is why the KC will not put retrospective results on reg forms.

i had my two flatcoated retrievers done in 1995 as score 0 to 5 test. then one 0 the other 4
but the rest of my gang over the years have done  a fail or a pass test which i think is the better way lucky all have pass.at lease you know where you stand with a fail and pass not by numbers 0 as a pass 5 as a fail so 2,3.4 you may still breed from dont think so.

I agree I think any test on Schedule A should be definitive i.e. pass or fail scenario

my test was done just over 12months ago and says NORMAL
- By tadog [gb] Date 16.10.08 16:47 UTC
all very well but a dog that had a pass taken (in error) to be re tested for glaucloma and failed so that is what the final result is. The BVA say it is only one persons opinion.
