Topic Dog Boards / General / Me and my girl got a fright..
- By lunamoona [gb] Date 11.10.08 17:57 UTC
As you may know about 5 months ago I took on a 5 year old Dobe who hasn't been well socialised.  She's been doing really well so far and gaining confidence with everyday experiences.

Today on our walk we bumped in to some kooky woman in the park who said how lovely my girl was and before I knew what was happening she threw her arm round her neck and shoved her face right into my girls face talking baby talk at her.  I said 'don't do that your scaring her!!' and she just went ' yes I know' in that awfull gooey voice.  My poor girl was terrified and leaped away.  I just had visions of all the horrible repercussions that could have happened.  Don't get me wrong I believe my girl has a lovely temperament but everyone has a breaking point!!  What made it worse was that this woman had a dog too and really should have known better.  I really don't understand how people get this stupid!!

And we know who would have got the blame for any problems that might have occured, don't we :-(

Stupid woman.

My girl loved going to the vets, but always gets scared of strangers that are too forceful.. even if they have good intentions

we had a new vet and he was like ABBIE BABY AWWW COME ON DONT BE SCARED AW BOO screeching at the top of his voice... thinking it would exite her... she was terrified and now hates going to the vets.. =[

0.m.g what a stupid woman she could have been severly bitten, you do get them though, good on your dog for just moving away, how awful  she could have attacked through sheer fear and you know what the consequences would have been, its not right some people are getting to the point where they are to scared to take there dogs out for walks because of incidences like this one , or you get the other one where the the irresponsibles are out with there macho dogs and just walk away when  there dogs attack other peoples , in a lot of circumstances these dogs are severly injured and can be ripped to bits. something has to be done maybe the councils should start putting up signs like no dogs with any  aggresive tendensies towards others shall be allowed in the parks etc  and bring back the park wardens to police it especially when there is young children around. going off topic a bit here sorry. it beggars belief how stupid some people can be  but they shall never admit to it if things turned out different, well done you and your dog.

What an absolute fruit cake! Why on earth do people think they can do what they want without thinking of the consequences, and i don't just mean what could of happened to "nuts o crazy nuts lady" but the work you have put in with the dog.

It's bad enough that she did it in the first place to me - but to say that she knew she was scaring your girl and carry on.... :-( People will be people.

Well we've both got over it now but I really had visions in my mind of this woman having half her face hanging off, it could so easily have happen in just a split second.  Maybe I need to have 3rd party insurance just to walk my dogs :(  I think my girl will forget it happened she is just sooooo excited on her walks that she can't stop bouncing.
- By munrogirl76 Date 11.10.08 18:59 UTC
TBH everyone should have 3rd party insurance for their dogs really (says she who has failed to renew it - blush heavily). If your dog pulls the lead out of your hand and heads across a road causing an accident I believe technically you are liable for resultant injuries, damage to cars etc - and that could get very expensive.

Yes, too true, and some people will be complete numbskulls.  Was going to put another word, but thought it may be removed.

Was going to put another word, but thought it may be removed. :-D

I think the already offered fruit cake sums her up. :-D

Thank goodness there was no bad reaction from the dog or lunamoona, I may have felt inclined to whack the silly woman on the head with my handbag. :-D

Talking of vets in all my years I have never had a vet do the gooey baby talk to my dog or any pups, but one year in taking the pups for their 10pt health check, one of them did a poo in the crate in the car, it was the first time it had ever happened and I had no kitchen roll etc (lesson learnt quickly) so I grabbed my newspaper and wiped this pups feet as best I could as he had stepped in it. Went in to see the vet who for the first time ever went OTT soppy and started cooing and kissing the pups, oh boy how sick did I feel when he was kissing this pups paws, I was smiling politely and waiting for his face to change, it didn't, he obviously must have had faulty taste buds. :-D

hope she hasnt put your girl back any futher.
how awful for you.
what a daft thing for this women to do.
You would hope that she knew better as she has a dog herself.

Lot of judging on here!

Perhaps the woman has learning difficulties.

Yep, very proud of my girl and as for me, my Mum brought me up proper :-D

> Perhaps the woman has learning difficulties

When I first bumped into the lady she was chatting to some other dog walkers and she seemed fully functioning, I'm not saying she was the full packet of biscuits, but more in a dizzy, jolly hockey sticks kind of way, rather than because of a learning disability.

Cadies by the way is fine will just have to keep an eye out to avoid scarey people.

Oh Mel, what a scary thing to happen!  Well cone you for handling yourself, I would have lost my temper I think ;-)

And thank goodness Callies is such a nice girl - if someone did that to my Soli (same as Callies, was an unsocialised 5yr old dobe), even two years after she came to me, there would have been blood I've no doubt.
