I've heard from a friend that if you work for so many hours on a computer you can get money towards the cost of glass's. Has any one done this and if so how do i go about it. Thought i would try and get some info before i ask my employer

You should ask your employer.  They may have a voucher system, like my work does and they reimburse a nominal amount on the provision of a receipt.  Although, I'm sure for mine, it has to be proven that you do need the glasses for VDU use.

I got a £50 voucher towards mine from my company.  Speak to your HR department about it.

First you get a free health eye check which by law you are permitted to have then with your employer paying for it, if its found you need glasses or your eyes have got worse you can get an allowance towards glasses, Im not sure how much but check with HSE for info?

I already wear glass's but i am due for my eyes checking and think i will need new ones as my eyes are hurting when on the computer everyday. I was only supposed to wear them for driving (needed them to take my test) and on the computer but wear them all the time now. Have had them for about 5 years so think im probably over due for my check. How often are you supposed to have them checked ?

HSE requirement for using VDU/DSE is yearly.

12 monthly for VDU but annually anyway. Its about £17 - £20 a test now?

My eyes have got worse since doing a job using a computer all day. Went for my test. Had a coupon for a free sight test so saved £25 and it was buy one get one free on specs so i had 2 pairs for £85. Not bad!!! Found out aswell, because there is diabetes and glaucoma in my family i will be eligible for free sight tests when im 40, only 18 years to go!!!
Never underestimate the importance of your eyes and having regular eye tests
