Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / when does milk dry up?

my pups are just 6 weeks old, and mum has not been allowing them to feed off her for about 4 or 5 days as they have now got some teeth!!

however, she looks like she is still full of milk. when, or how long, will this take to go away? i am still having to feed her 3 times a day on the vets advice, as she is very underweight, so reducing her food is not an option

Mine are usually dry by about 11 weeks after the pups birth, and have normally stopped regular feeding by 6 weeks with just the odd comfort suck after this.

thanks brainless....will her undercarriage, so to speak, go back to normal? she won't always be saggy will she?

Undercarriage can take weeks or months to return to normal, but the teats will never be the same again, but will get flatter and less prominent usually.

Some bitches never really get their figures back, but giving them plenty of exercise seems to help..

There is a company called Dorwest Herbs that sells homepathic pills to dry the milk up.  I think it is called Urica Urens.  If you look on their website dorwestherbs.co.uk and contact them for advice.  They are really helpful and will advice.
