I was so excited to see my master that I tore a nail out around turn 4 in the yard. What can my master(who doesn't have $200 for a vet visit) do for a sore Bassett Hound? Thanks

Hi SunnyD
Torn toenail care

If the nail isn't easy to trim off, please tell your owner to see a vet...
Massachussetts Veterinary Assoc.
discusses negotiating payment terms for vet care.

Plus, it really shouldn't cost anywhere near $200 for this to be done....unless there is some serious damage, in which your 'master' shouldn't be trying to fix it on his/her own then ;) Likely in the $50-$80 range if you have an average vet. :)
hth and good luck. Watch that mad dashing for a bit there ;)

Welcome to the forum Sunnyd :-)

You haven't said how much damage you have done but if your claw has come out cleanly, then get your 'master' to wash the area with luke warm salty water and then get him to leave it to heal :-) He needs to keep and eye on it incase an infection sets in, but apart from that, he doesn't need to mess around with it and it will grow back eventually.
