Does anybody have any experience of this?
I have been to my vet today as my dog started losing clear discharge from her nose on MOnday then it started crusting and now it has changed colour. He did say about an MR scan but he's a truthful vet and wonders if it is justified as it will cost about £700 and then we have to see whether they could do anything about it.
She is healthy at the moment. SHe's 9 years old. I know that people can't tell me what to do but what would you do in this situation?
Hi Diane, I hope this won't upset you but this is something I experienced with my 8 year old lab. Sam was such a lovely healthy dog, never been ill. Out of the blue he suddenly had a nose bleed. I ignored it as he seemed fine, and I thought it may be a grass seed up his nose which had irritated. He was due at the vets a fortnight later for his jabs and when I mentioned it, the vet looked horrified and said it could be cancer. He wanted to send him for tests but I was reluctant as there had been no more nose bleeds and he was fine. A few days later the nose bleeds started again, this time much worse. I went straight back to the vet, who referred him to the Royal Vet College for tests. We had to wait 3 weeks for this, by which time the nose bleeds were happening nearly every day. Sam had to stay overnight at the College hospital in Hertfordshire. They took a biopsy, which was malignant. Two weeks later we took him back for an operation to remove the growth in the nasal canal. Sam recovered from the operation, but died 2 hours later from a heart attack. I was devastated. It had all happened so quickly from the onset of the first nose bleed. He had been out for a lovely walk on the morning before his operation. We had a tearful drive back to Hertfordshire to collect Sam and bring him home to bury him in his favourite spot in the garden. Although I now have two more lovely labs, the experience still haunts me. I'm sorry to go on so, but maybe you can get your dog examined quicker, and sort out the problem before it gets worse. Do let me know how you get on please, and I hope you manage to get things sorted out.

Don't know if ths will help, but here goes.
Years ago we had a Lad/Whippet cross, at the age of 13 and a half she had nasal cancer, and we were unsure but went for an operationto remove the growth; she recovered well and was very happy for quite some time, but then it came back.
As she was by then an oldie, my parents took the decison to have her put to sleep as we felt the one operation was enough, we felt that it would keep comng back.
So I would say that if it is cancer, an ooperation may certainly help to give her a longer life, our girl did appear happy and pain-free.
We did not pay a huge amount for the op, and did not have any other "special" treatment done.
Hope this helps, lots of luck.
