Hi
How far into pregnancy should you be able to see puppies moving? My bitch is about 10 days away from whelping but I haven't seen any movement and she has a thick discharge too. Spoke to the vet who says there is nothing that can be done about the discharge now.

Thanks

Weima.. sometimes you just cant see puppies moving.. my girl is just days away from whelping.. and is huge, seriously huge.. I have yet to see any movement.. but.. when she lies in certain positions, I can just feel movement and no more...we have a discharge also.. its a pale creamy stringy discharge, clean with no smell... which I know from past litters is normal

One girl I have (Ollies mum) lost her plug 11 days before whelping, and dishcarge for quite a few of the 11 days before she finally whelped 11 strong healthy pups...

If the discharge is clean, with no tinge of green/red/brown.. and does not have a smell, I wouldnt worry too much..

Has your vet checked your girl over, or did you just give symptoms over the phone... If you are really worried, a trip to the vet to ease your stress levels might help... its a very anxious time for you.. and the mind goes into overdrive...

Thanks for the reply. My bitch isn't huge so perhaps that's why I can't see any moving? She has had the discharge almost from day 1 after mating but she has had ABs & the herpes vacc as last year she reabsorbed the pups at 6 weeks. I am goin g to the vets tomorrow night for the 2nd herpes vacc so I will ask them to either scan her again or listen for any heartbeats. I spoke with the vet over the phone but will feel easier after the app tomorrow I think.

I never saw mine moving, though a couple of times I saw Ellie jump as if startled, so they must have kicked! I could hear the heartbeats though, that was very exciting. :-)

My girl had a litter 12 weeks ago, I didn't see much movement and as I was watching her really closely didn't see how big she was getting either, I thought she was small.....lol.  She went on to have 9 pups, which is a big litter for a small cocker. All survived.

Thanks everyone. You've put my mind at rest. At least now I won't go into the vets like a demented chicken!!

Good luck for tomorrow, I'm sure she'll be fine!
Our bitch had 12 healthy pups on day 60 and we never saw any movement. She jumped up a few times and looked at her belly with a puzzled expression so I guess she could feel them moving!!

I spoke to the vet last night & she said that we'll scan the bitch just to make sure everything is OK.

Like humans everyone is different.  My friend had a 3.5kg baby boy, and didnt know she was pregnant! She never felt any kicks, she went to Dr thinking she had appenix trouble, when infact she was in labour!
My bitch started showing puppies moving about 3 weeks before they were born, tiny little movements, i sat for ages watching them! the last 10 days they were moving about like little aliens, you could see the heads and paws coming to the surface and if you gently touched them they kicked back!  Dont worry, maybe your dog is carrying them up high.  Good luck with the sleepless nights! :-)

Yes, I'd say all bitches are different too.  My girl who is in pup is apparently only carrying one pup but I have been sat here tonight watching little movements all over her tum.  She's 7 weeks.

Good luck with the scan - hope all goes well.

We went to the vets last night & on the scan you could see a backbone & a heartbeat! There isn't many in there I know that but now I've seen the heartbeat I feel so much happier.

Thank you everyone for your advice; I do appreciate it.

Hi there :)

My girl is at Day 57 & I feel puppy movement.  I first felt the puppy movement around day 51.  Although, I hear no heartbeats... maybe I just am not listening hard enough haha.

Her belly is getting quite large, and she's definitely dropped.

She too has a discharge, a mucusy clear liquid with no odor.

Hope this helps some.
