Hi All. Some of you will have seen my previous posts about my girl with GME. She also has cough syncope ( she faints following a restrictive cough that she has). One vet told me its a vagal faint as apposed to lack of oxygen(hypoxia). I believe it is lack of oxygen cos once she takes a deep breath she comes round. The one thing that seems to prevent this cough is prednisolone, which she was on for the GME long term. Unfortunately her liver enzymes started to go up, so vets have reduced pred to 1mg every 3rd day with the aim to cut it out altogether. This has resulted in the cough syncope returning. Im planning to take her back to vets, yet again! I just wondered if anyone has ever used a cough suppressant (not Benalyn) & if so what was the name of it. I have an american veterinary drug book that quotes a cough supp called dextromethorphan. Friends brought me some children's linctus of it back from canada, but now im scared to try it. My vet had never heard of this drug !
I just wondered if anyone has any experience of cough syncope. how it was treated. Or if anyone has used a cough linctus with dextromethorphan in it.
