Has anyone used Periactin tablets to stimulate their dogs appetite?

I would be interested to hear if they worked/didn't work for your dog :)

Or if anyone has used anything else to stimulate a dogs appetite, all info gratefully received :)

havent used them in a dog, but seen them used in cats, usually with ok results.

One of my friends had them for her dog, but they didn't seem to work. 
Have heard of others though who have had success with there dogs.

Just to add that people try different things but very rarely give it time
before moving onto the next suggestion from someone else who raves about
how something else totally different worked for there dog.

I have been advised to use them on my food refuser but dont like the idea of keeping an otherwise healthy dog on medication for long periods of time.
My other reason for not using them is I would question my own motives... is it just so my dog is well enough covered to win? I know that the temptation is huge... my boy had 18 JW points before he became just too thin to win.... they do like a chubby puppy in this breed.
I know that my vet thinks that my skinny Cavalier is 'a breath of fresh air' compared to the majority she sees in practice and declares him as fit as a flea :-) He will grow out of it.

Used Enervite in the past which I think may be similiar to the one Jwilson has mentioned.  Always worked on the pom's when one was going through a fussy period.

Probiotics usually do the trick, its a white powder which must be tasteless as the dogs eat it with no problems, you just sprinkle a bit on top of their food and it does seem to work.

I've used Periactin on one of my dogs before,and it worked 100%. Withing an hour she was ready to scoff down anything and everything.
I bombarded my vet with questions re: side affects etc,and they seem to be relatively safe.
I wouldnt use any medication long term though,i used a 1/2 tablet (6kg dog) every second day for a couple of weeks,then stopped for a while,until she got up to a decent weight.

I got some Nuish Um paste today and she really likes it.  Still looking into the other advice too :)
