on here and half watching tv, Beeb 2 has that 'animal24/7' on

RSPCA inspector gone to a house about 6 Akitas, owner takes her to see dogs, Male in run about 20ft square max, others 'in field'. Round behind fence there is patch of dirt with derelict car, caravan rubbish & junk with 5 bitches . Her comment was a bit of a mess.
Owner THEN said he is planning on breeding and the money from selling puppies will pay to tidy it all up:eek: . Oh and 'the dogs don't go out at all'
Stupid woman inspector gave him 3 weeks to improve things.

So much for all the C*** they are preaching at present.
Health tests, socializing etc...........what are they.

I wouldnt have given him 3 mins!

How can they be so flippant about these things an then preach to the KC about bad ethical practises, typical RSPCA

They can only operate within the framework of the law which I expect curtails a lot of what they would love to be able to do. It must be very frustrating being an RSPCA inspector. :-(

It's an awful thing, but the Inspector probably knows what the courts will and will not allow and is acting within those rules. I completely agree that I wish the RSPCA and others had more powers to close puppy farms, but unless the dogs are actually being beaten or starved, there probably isn't very much an Inspector can do. They can preach the virtues of health testing and training, but they can't force it. It's a very, very sad state of affairs.

Maybe they should stop blackening the name of the KC and focus more on their own troubles which is the inavalibity when dogs are being injured etc and also the dismissive nature they have of some cruelty cases, I know they are stretched but after you see their adverts saying their having the biggest animal welfare rescue ever and need more funding makes you think, funding for what??

Those are the troubles we as a society have that they are there to try and prevent rather than their own troubles. Their remit covers all animals not just dogs - and I think all responsibility for stray dogs, injured or no, is now that of the dog warden - the police used to have a role too. I have issues with various actions of the RSPCA in the past - but at the same time I am one for fair and balanced. :-)

Well if they have 5 bitches which he is planning on breeding then surely they were warned they will need a license if 5 or more litters are to be bred in the space of a year?

Thanks for your comments guys, My main problem with the prog was I kept waiting for her to explain to the owner that he should have a, b and c tests done and why he would need to have the pups IN the house to keep watch, and taking pups back if things went wrong etc. and SHE NEVER SAID A WORD.
I have a Male dog but have given the full spiel to various people I know who were suffering from the 'Fluffy puppy syndrome' to try and put them off.
Surely she should be trying to stop pups from happening  as her and the RSPCA are the ones who would cop for most of the resultant disasters.

Don't ask me? What on earth makes you think I would know exactly what they did in this situation?!

but at the same time I am one for fair and balanced.

And thats a good way to be, but has to make you wonder where all that donation money goes when the director of the company have very high paid jobs, surely that money could be used to fund more staff and shelters rather then lining the pocket of a director of a charity :(

I reported a case of cruelty just a week ago, a lurcher x was in someones front garden looking very skinny (so skinny you could see all his ribs, they were jutting out the poor thing couldnt have been fed for months) claws grossly overgrown and the poor thing didnt look like it could even stand up, shivering out in the freezing cold and looked totally distant, they didnt seem bothered when I called and gave me the impression they werent going to bother checking either as they said they would get in touch to let me know what they did, and alas no call :(

The programme today was a recording from before the Animal Welfare bill was passed, so in fairness the Inspector was using the powers that were available to her before things changed. It was made long before the current stuff the RSPCA are preaching.
