My dog Snoop has been suffering of late with a spine problem also recently had an operation for a corn on his pad. He hasn't really until today been having proper walks due to his foot also due to limping on 3 legs he became lame in his other front leg.. Poor guy has been in the wars , well hes on 3/4 tablet of rimadyl and that has helped him loads with his pains- I have brought some glucosamine & chondroitin from tesco as reading on here seems to help? the tablets are to be taken by a person over 12 yrs of age 2 tablets a day...so thought that I could half a tablet and give him half the dose? Would it be safe to give him this he weights 30 kgs.

Make sure that it doesn't have anything in it that could cause problems. Eg white Willow Bark is a common extract in joint suppliments but it can cause problems if taking NSAIDs  (there are some other precautions with white willow bark too).
Personally I swear by Synflex Original, it is for Humans & pets, it's a liquid in a bottle with an easy-dosage squirty bit (sorry for the odd discription!) and you just dose according to body-weight.

I use the glucosamine from Tesco, but without the chondroitin for my pug, but that's because I take it too :)
She's never had any ill effects from it. I also give all my dogs and myself a garlic capsule a day and a kelp tablet a day from Tesco too. The garlic keeps fleas away without using chemicals and the kelp is brilliant for pigmentation.

According to my physiotherapist humans need to take at least 1500mg glucosamine with 1200mg chondroitin in order to be effective. He told me any less wouldn't really do the job. So based on that I give my 40kg dog half of that. I think you'll find the Tesco pills might be quite a bit less in dosage - check the actual ingredients. For me, I would aim to give Snoop around 700mg gluc and 600mg chond but if in doubt check with his vet.

I got 200 Flexivet Start tablets for about £30 and that'll last my boxer about a year.  They contain both glucosamine and chondroitin. Much much cheaper online than from the vet.

GAGs (MSM/Glucosamine/Chondroitin) tablets from hellenia online  health foods vet section kept our GS mobile  for a good number of years after the vets had said her back end was giving up as the plate in her front leg put extra strain on her back ones. We lost her this summer aged 15.
