hi all. would someone please tell me when the schedules come out for the LKA dec 2008. this will b my first ever championship show... in my life, having never shown dogs before, so any advice on where i could get a schedule or entry form would be greatly appreciated. also any other tricks of the trade for showing a leonberger pup would be a god send. thanks in advance x

It is to early for the schedules to be out yet, but if you look at either highampress or fossedata websites one of them will have it when it comes out, i would say around september time. Lucky you, a Leo puppy, i have two Leos and they are very very adictive and lovely. I would sugest finding a ringcraft club, they are great ways of training your pup and socalising at the same time, what is your pup male or female and what is the name?

I think fossedata did LKA last year and I think it was end of sept, beginning of oct when it came out.  I love the LKA, like a mini crufts, plus always the time of year we give out the xmas cards as it is always the last champ show of the year.

LKA is a lovely show to start out with, not as busy as Crufts and time to wander round and do some shopping before Xmas.  Good Luck with your new Leo pup, i will be ther with my Leos.  Don't worry about showing you pup just stay calm as he will pick up on your nervs. Just make it fun and enjoy the day.

I'm planning to come to LKA with my new girl too :)
Well she is not new or puppy, she will be nearly 1.5 years old but she is "new" to us as she has finally come home to UK...
I have not been showing her much before LKA so it will all be new to us both!
So if you spot a huge probably hairless Leo girl who has no manners and an owner that is smiling like no tomorrow, that will be us :).

look forward to seeing you there Noora. I'll be the one green with nerves(still after 10 years of showing). I've got the leo thats crated on his bench.....he sits there with his head sticking out the top soaking up all the attention. If I dont take his crate he sulks. So anything for prettyboy :-)

if by 'nice ones' you mean crufts qualifiers yes there'll be just LKA for you this year. Theres Scotish Working& Pastoral in November which is a very 'nice' show, but then all the scottish ones are, such a relaxed atmosphere.
and theres Boston in January -we have classes but again no cc's. There were some of Logan's pups there last year.

Really annoyed to see they haven't given our breed any classes after all the years of support our breed gave to the Club in the import register classes.

Can rare breeds qualify for Crufts in any classes other than breed ones?  This means that those of us with pups out from October onwards haven't got a breed class to go to and to qualify for Crufts which is quite annoying really.

Only breeds with CCs at the show are EVER scheduled at LKA I'm afraid. But yes, you can qualify for Crufts in AVNSC as you are a non-CC breed -gives you *every* single champ.show to qualify at! :)

Just found out that LKA have no Alaskan Malamute classes,shame as there were 92 last year AND they had an entry of 92 Mals last year.Don't understand it as they will be giving C.Cs in 2010!!Doesn't make sense!!!!No classes for Aussies either.(The pastoral type not people from that country!)

Like I said LKA never has breed classes for ANY breeds without CCs at the show, and as it is the KC that allocates the tickets for each year it will ultimately be down to the KC then -did they change the show with tickets perhaps? We got tickets in Malinois at the same time as Malamutes and they keep moving ours around the shows. Eg. One year we had it (single CC) at Darlington, then that ticket was moved to Belfast, next it's going to be at Bath instead!!

That's not quite true, both my breeds have had classes at the LKA for years (and we only got CC status in 2005) however we have lost both breed classes this year (and one of my breeds is scheduled to get CC's there in 2010!) Very odd!

I was looking forward to this show but it is too far to put both breeds in as AVNSC :(

Yes they do :) Up until this year both my breeds have had classes even though it isn't a CC show for us :(

Tollers have classes for the first time this year at LKA, they are a rare breed, but it did take afew years of AVNSC :)

Kookiers have classes this year too...only their 2nd year off of Import so maybe there will be hope for us next year Diane...altho doesnt help us much this year with puppies to try and qualify especially when its only junior in AVNSC......

LOL Tanya , i can offer you no help as it will be my 1st time also , i have watched quite a few shows now but never actually handled our bitch ( hubby does it as i'm to chicken ).

We now have a another Leonberger a boy so LKA will be our 1st show , ( i'm still working on hubby to show him but i keep getting a firm NO )

If you go just look for the fool who has no clue what to do & is slightly green in colour  and that will be me  :0)
