Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bischon Advice - Pups with back legs that dont seem to work

Can anyone tell me if it is a known issue within this breed to have back legs where the joints seem to be fused and render the back legs useless?

No I haven't heard of that - I have a 4 1/2 year old Bichon and his legs are absolutely fine.  They are prone to slipping patella though but that's all I know about with regards to their legs.

Is it possible this pup is a swimmer? Is it big and fat? If so you can probably get it walking.

What does the vet say ?

Hi Maxine

On my thread I put a link of a rescue that ends up with a lot of ex breeders.  They have a Bichon puppy with exactly the same as this and he is the 4th they've had.  His name is Mally and there is a slide show to show his condition.  They too are looking for advice.

HI

This particular pup is waiting to see the vet.  However, was more asking if this is a general known issue within the breed?

Also on the subject of 'swimmer' - it is possible but just wondering if anybody has heard of anything else..

thanks

I thought about it being a swimmer that's why I asked but by 8 weeks I would be expecting it to be able to walk etc.
