Topic Dog Boards / Health / How long does kennel cough last?
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 29.09.08 12:44 UTC
Hi, could anyone tell me how long before a dog with kennel cough can mix with other dogs?
My 20 week old pup was exposed to kennel cough 8 days ago and although he has had the vaccination he does seem to have a little cough, nothing like what the owners of the original dog said the symptoms were like. Just the occasional dry cough when playing, no discharge coughed up or runny nose/eyes.He is still eating/paying and being a regular pain in the backside just like most pups!! My vet said to just keep an eye on him and if the symptoms get worse to bring him in. So, back to the point, LOL. How long does this last, and when can he go back to training/ring craft classes?
Thanks in advance.

usually about a fortnight after they last show signs of it. its hard to do and i sympathise, my pup had it at 14weeks!! They can harbor it for a good while afterwards, even up to a month or so, but thats not usuallyfeasible, so about a week to two. I would say a fortnight for training, as its close contact to other dogs, maybe a week for general walking.
