Is it £10 per puppy to register now? Is it sent to Clarges Street or Aylesbury?
- By Lady Dazzle [gb] Date 26.10.02 11:55 UTC
It is now £12 per puppy charm, but you do get lovely registration forms now, and a separate breeders registration form listing all the pups registered in that litter. ;-)

They have to go to Aylesbury, not Clarges Street.

I am so glad I asked before sending this form off, I have an old form, which still can be used apparently, already to go, I tried on the KC website, to download a new form but it only printed half of it, Thanks for the info

hi all , im trying to squeeze my way into the dog world...not to much avail,i have wrote hundreds of letters asking how to start out regarding breeding~to kennel club and breeders alike...no one answers! its like they dont welcome new people!
- By charm [gb] Date 28.10.02 11:25 UTC
I have looked at your profile, this is apparently your first post as a registered champ dog user, You will get help from this site, firstly do you already have a dog? and if so which breed is it.
- By Zoebeveridge [gb] Date 28.10.02 11:35 UTC
no i dont .. yet , my pup has been born and will be with me shortly!
She's a Newfoundland.
My point was that i have researched this breed for the past 4 years, ive met other Newf's ( only pets) but that is as far as i can get! ive tried to join the Newfoundland club~before i get a puppy in the hopes to make some contacts that show dogs to see the dog in his finest form.Apparantly i cannot join unless i am put foward by a member then seconded! I DONT KNOW ANY MEMBERS! im trying to do the right thing and get information BEFORE but they seem to make it so that you can only obtain it ...when it may be too late !

Most people are introduced to the world of showing via the breeder of there puppy, am I to take it that your puppy is not from a show breeder?
- By Zoebeveridge [gb] Date 28.10.02 12:48 UTC
no , by the look of the pedigree 3 grandparents are champions , 3 great grandparents and two gr gr grandparents!
the breeders are listed at champdogs
- By Zoebeveridge [gb] Date 28.10.02 12:50 UTC
obviously i dont know if my bitch will be of show standard yet , but if she is will her parents not being champions make a difference?
- By fleetgold [gb] Date 28.10.02 12:58 UTC
No. A lot of very good dogs are not champions.

No absolutely not, the parents do not have to be champions, if the breeders of the grandparents are on champdogs, the try to e mail and talk to them, I am sure they would help you, next thing you need to do is find out if there is a ringcraft club in your area, what area do you live, I am sure other champdoggers who reads these threads will help you out, by joining a local ringcraft club, even if they dont own the same breed, will help you, to learn how to show your dog, also when and where shows are being held, another thing you can do while your young lady is growing up, is attend a few shows, to get the atmosphere.

What day is the Wilmington one on?
- By charm [gb] Date 28.10.02 15:30 UTC
I have made a list of show secretarys in the Kent area, for you to ring to find out when they hold ringcraft classes.
UK Paper Leisure 01227 751526
Tunbridge Wells 01732 832752
Isle Of Thanet 01227 364764
Kent County 01474 703470
Gravesend 01634 261641
Folkstone 01304 201429
Dover & Deal 01795 535719
East Kent 01227 274324
Dartford 01634 846197
Ashford & Faversham 01227 274324

As you can see there are quite a few in the Kent area, most shows are held at Maidstone, but the ringcraft classes will vary between societies.

Sorry to say your dogs pedigree is not as important as it's breeder, if you have bought from a breeder who show and is a member of a breed club, and is know for being careful they they breed from only stock that has been health tested and proved in the show ring, if you had then you will be in, and the the breeder will help you get a foot on the ladder. Ja:)kie

Most breed clubs insist that you are nominated and seconded. When I sell a puppy I always offer to nominate the purchaser to the breed club myself, and would find a seconder for them. Won't your breeder do that for you? The other way would be to attend a show or two (preferably a breed show), the secretary or others on the committee are usually happy to sign the nomination form when they know that you are showing some committment by attending breed functions.

Good luck with your puppy

Hi, good to see you are getting some support now - its just finding the right place! Hope you dont mind me saying but what is probably clamming breeders up is that you may be enquiring about how to become a breeder rather than an owner first. Most involved in breeding and showing would rather you were interested in the breed first ( which I'm sure you are) and then wait to see if the puppy turns into a dog with show quality, having had the relevant health testing for the breed and THEN think about breeding. I now it sounds a bit hypocritical, as responsible potential owners do buy with view to breeding IF the dog matures into a nice, sound dog - but there are so many people that come into a breed with view to breeding indiscriminantly to make money. I feel from your posts that you are not one of these sorts of people, but breeders can be very protective towards the breed and their dogs if they think they may be exploited. So be enthusiastic about the breed rather than breeding, for now, and perhaps you will get better feedback. Once you have your puppy you will have two years or so to do the rounds at shows and get to know people in the breed and they will get to know you, before you actually breed a litter. When you buy your puppy make sure there are no breeding restrictions put on her, or if they are get a written statement from the breeder as to the terms under which they will be lifted- i.e. satisfactory health tests/hip score etc. Personally I wouldn't buy a bitch with a breeding restriction from a non breed club member - come to think of it I wouldn't buy a "show quality" puppy from non breed club member either!

Hi Westie lover,
thanks for your advice , i understand what you are saying. Its like a catch 22~i love the breed and have for years and feel it would be right for our circumstances and as a lover of the breed i want a good quality dog that will be a true example of a Newfoundland. My first priority is to my family ( including the pup in that) to make sure we're right for eachother~so with all this in mind i try to find out more about the breed~bloodlines~showing etc so that i know people with quality dogs etc.My first port of call was the kennel club followed by the breed club , the kennel club have never replied and the breed clubare not much help unless you are a member~which you cant be without having a dog!
So by trying to find out all i can and get the right advice and contacts i appear to be a nosy novice that intends to breed!
Its all very difficult , more so knowing where to get the puppy from . A lot of the well known breeders are reluctant to sell~or put you on the waiting list~if you are a novice.
I dont intend to breed and i dont know if my pup will be of show standard but asking questions to you guys has been the only way to get real answers other than book reading!

Hi,if you can why not go along to Discover Dogs held at Earls Court on the 16/17th November. All breeds of dogs will be on display with the purpose of introducing them to the public and there should be representavies of every breed, so you can talk to owners and breeders. I am not sure though whether all breeds will be there on both days. Details at www.the-kennel-club.org for information. Its a great day out. Also on 14 th Dec is the Ladies kennel Club Championship show in where Newfies will be shown- info from the KC site. I really would try to get yourself along to one or both of them and you may make progress. With regard to your remark about the Newfie club, you dont usually HAVE to be an owner to be a member of a breed club. I would get a membership application form from them if you haven't already and take it with you to these events. You may be able to persuade a couple of members to propose and second you. There may also be Newfie message boards/communities on the web you could join.
