Well, Poppy and I survived our first show today, at Belfast.
She was a little nervous when we first got there, but she soon settled down quite well. She must have been a bit nervous in the ring, as she refused any bait at first, but did stand up well anyway. Then we all 'went round' and she LOVED it! She was much better after that.
She did seem to have a strange fascination with sniffing the floor, but I managed to mostly keep her attention. She was a bit distracted, but I think we did OK for our first time. I felt sick all morning, but managed to stay fairly calm in the ring.
We managed to get Reserve, which I know won't seem much to a lot of people, but means the world to me. I had fully expected to come last!
A HUGE thankyou to everyone who supported and offered advice to me over the last week or so. I feel like I have been asking question after question!

Excellent - well done. :-)
A lot of interesting smells on the floor - I have always struggled a bit with mine trying to sniff especially if it's outdoor rings.
Most importantly - did you both enjoy it? :-)
Well done :) :) :) That's a brilliant result for your first show!

Well done Jackson. The place doesn't matter if it went well honestly. Some days all I care is that my bitch and I performed well regardless how I did. BUT well done for the placing also. They don't have to place you remember so you achieved something :-)

Its onwards and upwards now! ;)

well done to both of you!
Thankyou very much!
I am thrilled. I have looked at the photos and video my husband kindly took, and can see where we can both improve, so we have something to work on.
I enjoyed it so much! And Poppy seemed to love it once she got over her nerves. (or maybe once I got over mine!)
I had been considering showing my older two girls, aged 3 and 11 months for a while, but was too scared, but now I am definitely going to.

Well done. Hope you enjoyed yourself. Not too bad is it!

Well you did better than me at my first show, their were six in the class and you guessed it I was the only one not to get a piece of card or a ribbon. Thankfully he was a great dog and did win a good few classes once I sorted my act out. Thankfully many years ago now but I will always remember it.
Give 6 months and the butterflies calm down a bit but even years later I still get butterflies before a class and it doesnt even matter if I am the only one in a class at an open or in a best in show at champ.
And now you have had your first show I can officially say welcome to the doggy showing club. :-D
Emma
Congrats! Reserve is really good!

Fantastic, I'm so glad you enjoyed it - and getting placed is even better! We got a 3rd on our first outing and that was enough to get me hooked!

Well done!!! To place at your very first show, is amazing!!!! You have a good dog, and the judge recognized that. Keep going strong!!!!

Well done!!!!!!!!

Fosse yet? Poppy officially has her name in lights :-p (well that's what I did on my first placing LOL)
Yes, I did it Saturday evening! LOL
I can't wait for the next one now, but it's a whole month away! I am hoping she won't come into season.

Sorry but that's the next rule you learn on showing. If you have a champ show you're looking forward to she's
guaranteedto into season. ;-)

How old was Caoimhe whens he has her first? We have had 9 an d10 months with our other two.
I have also entered the pup we bred, and she has just had her season, so I think we're safe there. Famous last words and all that....
