Hi All, First if all I'd like to say, what a great site.
I'd like to ask if anyone knows what the outcome may be for my 8 year old female Rotty, Sophie.
She's started weeing herself. She's always been a very clean girl and has never had any mishaps until now. She has started wetting her bed. She goes for regular walks but it is still happening even when she has access to the garden. I examined her and there is a steady trickle coming from her which She seems oblivious to. She was spayed 6 years ago and to my knowledge she has never been bred.
She has also been on Norocarp tablets for a few years due to Arthritis. I will take to the vets on Monday but thought I'd ask, so I know what to expect.
Any advice is greatfully received.
Thanks in advance
Rita

There are very successful medications for incontinence if it is straightforward incontinence. :-) Have a google for sphincter mechanism incontinence. :-) And either Propalin, Urilin or Incurin are the meds usually used for it. Has she been off colour or drinking more or weeing more? There are other things that cause incontinence - like cystitis etc - so would be a good plan to take urine sample to the vet when you take Sophie so that can be checked. If she has been off colour at all and/or given her age and the tablets she's on they may want to do blood tests to check organ function as well. HTH. :-)

Hi Rita,
After a very nasty and severe infection, my Gordon Setter Ollie was left incontinent at the age of 7. He was put on propalin and stayed on it until he passed away at the age of 12. The only thing i will say is that he was prone to infections due to "things" not being as tight as have should have been, this occurred once or twice a year but after a course of antibiotics he would be back to his old self again.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Funny you should ask but I think she hasn't been herself lately. She still wants to do all her favourite things, i.e walks to the park, playing tug of war and eating of course, but I have found her on her night time bed a bit more. She usually favours the whoolie rug. Generally she wouldn't go on her bed until bed time. She has been drinking a lot more than usual too. Yes I will take a urine sample to the vets on Monday.
Thank you so much for your help

Hi Jane,
Thank you for your post. So sorry to hear about Ollie. It's so hard to loose a best friend. We wish that they could live as long as we do.
I will take Sophie to the vet on Monday and pray that it is not something serious. She's still very happy in herself and also only 8 yrs old.
Take care and I will keep you posted

Hi Rita,
My German Shepherd (11yrs) started being incontinent about 7 months ago. My vet put her on to Incurin, once a day to begin with, then once she'd stopped wetting her bed, told me to gradually increase the time between tablets. She now only has one a week and is perfectly clean. She also has Arthritis in her spine and is on PLT tablets (or Prednoleucotropin in full) .

Let us know what the vet says today - hope all goes well. :-)
