Wasn't quite sure where to post this so put it here.
A while ago we decided to get a Standard Poodle, a breed which I have had before. I found a breeder in Scotland who had a litter of pups of 8 weeks old and an older bitch of 8 months. We weren't bothered about a young pup so after several telephone conversations and photos we decided to have the 8 month old. The breeder said he would innoculate her and he said he delivered. That alone should have set warning bells ringing but I agreed to pay mileage.
Skye ended up being delivered by a third party, a friend of the breeders, and came with no papers (despite supposidly being KC registered). She was timid, head shy and had conjunctivitis. Our other dogs hated the couple who delivered her, even our most docile dog growled, something she has never ever done before.
Anyway, I tried ringing and texting the breeder. Both were ignored. Our vet wanted to know if Skye had indeed been vaccinated but we couldn't find out so she was done again. Her eyes are now fine. However, I still have no KC papers, I don't even know her date of birth!
She is daft as a brush, absolutely adorable and we wouldn't change her for the world, however, is there anything we can do to report this breeder? He is still selling puppies on a well known website and breeds a couple of other breeds, not just Standards. We just want to make sure that others are aware that this breeder will take your money and run, providing dogs with health problems and no papers.
Do you have proof that she was advertised as KC Registered? If so then you may be able to go to Trading Standards. If not then I don't know where to start. The breed club would be a good place I suppose. See if he is a member. If so then he should follow the code of ethics. The club might know about already if this isn't the first time he's done this.
Personally though, I would have wondered why the bitch wasn't innoculated at 8 months :-( That would have set the alarm bells off for me. Then along with the fact that someone else delivered her I owuld have left well alone.

And the moral of the story is never have a dog delivered - see the parent(s), papers, health of animals, state of premises.
There's no way this breeder is following any kind of code of ethics.

I will warn you first it is a difficult battle but one that can be won if you're stubborn enough.
First you will need documented proof.
Have you got emails, letters, any paperwork? e.g: you said you where sent pictures, how did they send you the pictures, how did you pay, did you get a receipt, did you get told the kennel club name? All this info could be used as proof.
Skye was advertised as KC reg but it was an internet ad and therefore we are unable to get proof. The breeder did mumble a KC name to me at some point but I can't remember what it was now. The pics were emailed from a 'friends' email address, no text, just pictures.
I am not particularly bothered about what happened to us. I was stupid and naive, particularly stupid and naive as I have bred a litter before and insisted on meeting the prospective owners and would never even have contemplated delivering a puppy.
The dog was not innoculated as the breeder said they were farm bred, had the run of the farm but never came into contact with other dogs so she didn't need innoculating there. Reading back all this I really can't believe how naive and trusting I have been!
All I want to stop is this breeder lying to buyers, to stop him being so bl**dy irresponsible and taking people for a ride. I was considering contacting the breeders local council to report him. The breeder told me he had 5 dogs in total but the people who delivered the dog told me he had about 40 :o I didn't know that a third party was delivering Skye.

louisechris1 here is a few thing you can do :)
Contact the website where Skye was advertised give the website the info you have, the website can check the database for the advertisment once they have found request that they give proof. Also put a complaint about this person to the website they can ban any future advertising from them. As for the email address contact the email provider and make a complaint about this person.

I would also contact the local authority to see if they have a breeders License, which they would need if they breed more than four litters in any 12 months.
Also might be worth contacting HMRC - if they have several litters a year, they should be paying income tax!
And the moral of the story is never have a dog delivered
I agree with your post, but would say that sometimes caring breeders will deliver a puppy, after the purchaser has already visited them of course! A friend bred Danes, and vetted people in their home at at her home before sale, they would visit to see the puppies but she always delivered them herself regardless of distance, because she prefered this, and it gave her a chance to see if the house and garden were ready for the puppy.

Yes, in that case fair enough..but I did point out see house, parents, papers etc. before making any further arrangements.
Having said that...and you'll laugh. When I was 18 ( I left home ) and the first thing I was going to have was a dog. I phoned up about a BC in the local paper and the farmer agreed to bring the puppy ( 4 months old over as I didn't drive ). The dog was free anyway and I paid him petrol money. But, that dog, was the best dog I've ever had and he lived with me until he was 13. But that was many, many moons ago and I was a very naive kid...the story could have been so different !
