Just a little mone. I take my dog to ring craft every week , its a nice place with friendly people. I relay enjoyed it the first few weeks but now I am not enjoying it so much. The problem I have is other people letting there dogs misbehave. We all have to stand in a line to wait our turn to gait our dogs. I use the line to get my dog to practise her stand, but some of the other people use it to let there dogs play. They let there dogs jump all over mine winding her up and making her misbehave. I try to pull her away, but they just let there dogs  go to the full length of the lead to get to mine. Of cores my dog loves to play but she gets so wound up that when its our turn I cant get her to do anything. I have tried to politely say ,please keep your dog from jumping on mine but they just smile and say they are only playing. Its so frustrating, we are only there for an hour and I only got to go round 3 times last class, my dog was so wound up by the other dogs jumping all over her that I gave up and sat down for the last 20 mins.  I hate to complain as its a really nice class with a lot of lovely people and dog's. and most of the dogs are well behaved ,but I am wondering if I should continue going, could this be ruining my dogs show training?

When one begins showing it all seems so daunting and the need to 'get it all right' can be overwhelming.
Many more experienced handlers like to teach their pups to switch on and off so that they can 'jump to it' when required but at the same time have fun.
Dont ever under-estimate the importance of making it fun for your dog - once lost it is very difficult to get it back.
If you ever see a dog at a show who has lost its 'fun' then you'll know what I mean.... a sad, flat and reluctant dog should not be shown IMO.
You need help from someone who has a lively typical puppy, who plays but has learnt how to stike the pose for the few minutes required but can play with the best of them.

Enjoy your puppy.

Don't get me wrong she plays a lot at ring craft and has made a few good friends, I am quite happy to let her play and make friends, its the dogs that go over the top ,playing to ruff that I don't like. She has one friend who she always plays with but like me the owner knows when its got to ruff or the dogs are to wound up and she stops her dog. So I am quite happy to stand next to her in line. But there is one or two who get really ruff almost sitting on my pup holding her down and climbing all over her. You can see its getting out of hand but the owners wont do anything to stop it, my pups tail was dropped right down as she was so  nervous and I could not get it up to its normal curl. I love watching her play nicely but hate to see her on her back with a dog on top of her.

Well then you are going to have to do what I do and say in a stern voice " Please stop doing that - your upsetting my puppy" but you're probably not an old dragon like me.
If it's bothering you speak up, ok some will go "oooh listen to her" but you'll get that at all doggie gatherings and you will not always be the new girl. :-).

I also have been known to say "dont touch the dog"  when someone dares to reach out to mine when I'm just about to enter the showring.... What am I like?

lol yes I need to be brave . I think I try so hard to fit in that I don't want to complain.

Ah but vinya.... when you start winning ......you won't necessarily fit in anymore :-)

At the ringcrafts that I attend (very irregularly ;-) ) once we are standing up then playtime is over and pity help anyone who lets their dogs play  :-D One of the 'judges' is very strict about it and makes us all feel like we are back in kindergarten :-)

If you are uncomfortable about it then you could try moving your dog away from the naughty ones, or having a quiet word with whosoever is in charge. They maybe don't realise just how bad it is.

At the end of the day you are teaching your dog how to behave in the showring, and playing isn't usually allowed. You never know when the judge is looking ;-)

Edited to correct punctuation.......

I would just politely say 'could you control your dog, he's getting my one all worked up and I'm trying to work with her'. Of course you want to let your dog have a little time to sniff other dogs and say hello, you don't want to be standing her all evening, but a quick sniff hello would be ok. But no, you shouldn't be worried to say you don't want them jumping all over your dog!

Just be thankful it's the dogs winding her up!

At our ringcraft there's a man who loves to make a ridiculous fuss of my pup and doesn't stop until she's turning herself inside out :(   It isn't as if a Bedlington pup needs that much fuss to go mental! but he's completely over the top :(  and then he says Ohh look she's as mad as mine! - while his pup sits about doing very little at all

One day I'm going to snap!

"don't touch the dog" sounds good to me LOL

Have you had a quiet word with the trainer? when other members are probably novice handlers as well as you, they may not completely understand the code of conduct required in the ring. Maybe it could be part of the lesson every few weeks, why not try suggesting something along those lines. It might make a bit of variety for the handlers and their dogs along with some basic socialising (On the lead of course).
If all else fails maybe theere is another class that you could try.

Thanks all. I will try and say something if it happens again next week
