Topic Other Boards / Foo / SXI or SRI < Cars?
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 25.09.08 15:21 UTC
I was just browsing vauxhall astras, i want one for my next car you see (i do do work at work btw!!) and i was wondering what was the difference in price and speed and comfort to an SXI or an SRI model?? Which is best?
I am really confused lol
- By Rach85 [gb] Date 25.09.08 17:46 UTC
SRI!!!! SRI!!! SRI!!! SRI!!! SRI!!!

Did I say SRI lol

With a cavalier or Astra it always has to be the SRI (for us anyway lol) if you get one in black they are pretty rare :)
We were looking for one recently but got sidetracked by a Black Golf Mark 3 GTI lol

So SRI it has gotta be as they are faster :) , more reliable and the price is pretty much the same depending on age and wear and tear etc but the SRI is just an upper market version and the other SXI doesnt mean anything really so SRI it up baby!!! :-D
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 26.09.08 08:23 UTC
Ohhh right thankyou!!! I thought SRI was quite good, but then i saw SXI and was like "HUH" lol!

So would it go SXI, SRI, SPORT... would that be how it went, or is SRI fast but comfort, whereas sport is more just fast??

How old are you Yorkies? May be worth looking at insurance quotes on the different cars too beofre you make a decision on which one to test drive or buy.

Good point Freds Mum :)

I would say there isnt any difference in comfort as the SRI my boyfriend had when we met was very very comfy so you get best of both worlds as well :)

We always go SRI!! :)

I had an astra Sport (2.0 16v)for years. THe only car I've ever bought new, and kept it for 10 years sold it on eventually when the little cherubs where I used to live had put the back window through 1 too many times - I still miss it! It was like driving a go cart, the down side was it made you drive fast, it was almost egging you on. And even when I was caught speeding (by a nice policeman in an unmarked video car), the boys in blue were raving about the engine etc whilst writing my ticket out.

Now I have the 3 large woofits it's a mondeo estate (bah humbug).

Oh gosh i didnt realise people had replied to my post!!

Sorry! Thanks for the replies!!

I am 20 years old, got 2 years no claims (not much i know but good for my age)

I am not really that fussed about the insurance to be honest, well i am, i currently pay 800 and odd a year at the moment for this past year for a 56 reg ford fiesta zetec 1.4 petrol. So was thinking a diesal even tho a larger engine would be cheaper to insure as they are cheaper to tax and are more economical etc...

SRI sounds mint, and Sport is fast because i drove my friends, but didnt know which was best lol, so confusing isnt it! :)
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 01.10.08 11:46 UTC
Actually i just lied!! Its 700 and odd for my insurance... i think... not really sure but will lower again this time in a couple of months when its due for renewal...

I would strongly recommend checking out insurances - my old Astra sport was a group 16. I was paying something like £500 fully comp, but I'm much older than you and had maximum no claims - well technically more than maximum, I think most insurers stop adding discounts after 5 and I had 10.

It doesn't hurt to phone around to get an idea - if you're paying £700 for a 1.4 fiesta you might be in for a bit of a shock when looking at what's considered a much sportier model.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 01.10.08 12:29 UTC
WOW, that seems like a hell of a lot of tax. Ive got a 1.3, 3 years no caims and pay £300 ish for fully comp.

> WOW, that seems like a hell of a lot of tax.

Do you mean insurance?! lol!!

Mine is fully comp as well... i think its because of my age, i am only 20 and the younger you are the more expensive your insurance is, its like they punish younger drivers for being on the roads lol!

When i had my old clio, 1.2 petrol, that was going to be renewed at 525 or something and that was before i shopped around... it was a 53 plate... its expensive for younger drivers! *Curse* them insurance companies!! Cant believe you pay £300 thats well good!!! :)
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 03.10.08 09:46 UTC
Yes i did mean insurance :-).......dur :-)
Im only 22 and have only been driving 3 years so definatly have a look around Yorkies, sounds like your paying an awful lot.
Im not entirely sure about how it all works but insurance should be better on a newer car. Has it got any extras - large exhaust, alloys, body kit etc? I cant work out why you are paying so much!!
;-)
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 03.10.08 10:51 UTC
HAHA!!

It is the Zetec version, so its the more comfortable version of the fiesta, but it isnt the sport, the wheel are alloys, but not low profile or anything like that, but no body kit or anything cos i am not into all that, prefer a car to be comfortable lol!

Maybe that extra year no claim makes a big difference... im not sure... we will find out soon enough next year though!! :)

Newer cars are more expensive to insure i think, because if you bump them they cost more to repair, i think thats how it works... so with it being a 56 plate, zetec.. that could be why? Dont know really myself haha!!
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 03.10.08 12:41 UTC
I dont fully understand it myself. if i were an insurer i would think that if a 20 year old could afford a decent car they would look after it well, so make the insurance cheaper. If a 20 year old had an old banger they intended to rag around then i would put the insurance up as i'd assume with a cheap car they'd have less respect for their driving leading to more accidents.
it is rubbish being young and paying high insurance...roll on a few years when we have some no claims under our belt :-)
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 03.10.08 12:44 UTC
Excactly!!! Cant wait until i get those no claims and get them protected, would be fab!
I understand totally what you mean, doesnt make any sense does it!!

Thing is, a lot of parents by their very lucky kids a powerful big newish car... so they get one easily and again because they havent bought it and are inexperienced, they rag it around then unfortunatly crash...

Boy racers buy older cars and do them up, however there insurance rises cos of what they add to it, but it is still not as much as mine i wouldnt of thought and they are the dangers!!!

Good Grief you are paying £700 for a 1.4 fiesta???? Thats scandalous!

I have always had sporty cars my fastest one a volvo v70 2.3 petrol T5 which is the one traffic police use on the motorway, with a staggering 260bhp, for this I was only paying £320!!!

Have you got lots of convictions or live in a high crime area or something????

I think it's probably just an age thing!

yorkies4eva, I wouldn't bank on your insurance going down dramatically, I've got THOUSANDS of years no claims, (or so it seems), yet it still seems to creep up a bit every year. :-(

> Have you got lots of convictions or live in a high crime area or something????

HA!! Have i heck! Clean!! Also my area i live in is like a little village, very lovely area, its no way a crime area!! So its nothing to do with that what so ever!

Its parked on a private drive off a private road at night behind gates.

So no idea, it is my age though, but when it comes to be renewed, i am hoping it will drop a hundred or so off what it is now.. going to shop around as well this time and see if i can get cheaper...

When i had my clio, that dropped from something like 800 down to 550 but i bought a new car, which in turn made it rise lol...

So hoping this will drop to 500 and something at least, but still going to shop around

Sorry to hear about your insurance seeming to creep up :(
