thanks very much will keep everyone posted long night ahead
- By Teri Date 25.09.08 21:53 UTC
It may not be that long - well, the whelping part that is - sometimes they are well spaced out, occasionally they arrive quite rapidly.  My girl's first three were juggled between myself, daughter and OH drying them off as she had less than a couple of minutes between them.

But don't fret - after that part's over it's a mere 8 weeks hard labour :-D

Also weigh them and keep a chart of the weights.

At first weigh every day to ensure they are gaining (or don't loose more than an ounce in first day or two).

After that weigh every few days and after two weeks each week.  If the weight gain slows you will have a clue that something is up, or that it is time to help out by starting weaning.

If any pup seems not to be getting their fair share make sure to plug them onto the best teats every time you pass by.  Do not resort to topping them up with formula unless you absolutely have to.

Mum will need lost more food and very soon will want three or four times the normal amounts.

To be hones I let my girls eat as much as they want offered at least four times a day in their beds at first.

I would start interviewing prospective new owners asap so you can get to know them and assess which pups are likely to suit which owners.

thank you will do that also want to ask is a little bloody discharge normal not much only really when she has to pass water and has diarioa (pls excuse spelling)so gettin her to drink lots of fluids but she will only take milk dont think its helping tho...
- By Goldmali Date 26.09.08 21:10 UTC
also want to ask is a little bloody discharge normal

Perfectly normal and it can go on for several weeks, I've known it to go on for up to 8 weeks with some bitches, with others just one week.
- By niamh c [ie] Date 26.09.08 21:23 UTC
thank you and what about her stools then i dont meen to sound vulger but is that normal she is panthing a little also but the room wouldnt be over warm
- By Astarte Date 26.09.08 21:31 UTC
deep breaths and best of luck :)

let us know how its going.
- By Astarte Date 26.09.08 21:32 UTC
she will be panting a lot. generally when things start moving.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 26.09.08 21:33 UTC
the runs is normal also she would of eat all the sakes and this courses it , as for the panting this can be normal as the the next few days her temp will be up just keep a eye on her and if she looks like she starts straning again call your vet stright away but i think it is ok for now ....also if she only wants to drink milk (it is puppy milk and not cows milk?) thats fine it will help her milk come ,if you feel your girl isnt copeing good and panting alot call the vet to be on the safe side x x x x
- By Goldmali Date 26.09.08 21:33 UTC

well puppys are doing great as is mother today panthing has stoped 3boys 3girls she had some scrambled egg for me today i dont think i will ever eat that again sick of the site of it one side of her tummy is hanging alot lower than the other i am wondering would that be because there is more milk to that side might sound silly but i dont no.. going out for wheilpy now this town is backwords no where opens till half ten or 12 on a wens if at all its a joke...thank you too every one for yor kind regards x x x
- By white lilly [gb] Date 27.09.08 15:30 UTC
sounds like it could be her milk so you must make sure she is swoping sides (turning around) so that there not drinking from just 1 side :) 3 of each thats great :) start trying her on a good puppy food soon ,she will need the cals , are thay puting weight on now ?
and ask away theres always some1 here that will help you :) x x x x
- By lolasmum [gb] Date 28.09.08 13:13 UTC
Congratulations :) So pleased everything went well. She sounds like a great little mum. Definately get her started on some good quality pup food now. My girl enjoys hers soaked in puppy milk and chicken. First couple of days she might only want to eat it in her bed with the pups but thats normal. Enjoy them they sound lovely:)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 29.09.08 11:20 UTC
So glad to hear it! Yes, once you're sure she's happy with you fiddling with her & pups, make sure they drink from all teats so everything keeps flowing. Panting is very normal, also green poos from puppies (not mentioned in any of my puppy books!)
