I took my girl for mating at her last season back in January , didn't use any testing method just took her on her 11th and 13th day , anyway she missed... so this time around I am using a Draminski , she is now on her 13th day and the reading is still very low (140) those of you who use one of these will know it needs to be reading much higher than this to indicate her being ready.I am starting to panic now and don't know whether I should take her anyway or trust this thing and just keep testing.Any advice or similar experiences ??

When I took my bitch to be mated I had the problem that she wasnt ready too... we didnt know when she would be as this was her first litter so we left her with the stud owner. I wouldnt advise it if you dont know them that well or dont trust them but just a thought... if they would take her in for a week then that would make more sence..
This means that the stud owners may get an idea of when she is ready (how keen she is basically) but she isnt being forced to mate when she isnt ready.

I have a draminski and found it needed a fair bit of practice to get into the right position. Had some good results with it though. Now have a matell much easier to use...but as of yet the jury is still out on that one!.
You do not nescesarily need a high reading its the peaks and troughs you read by. Did she start out with a very low reading? maybe she just has a lower peak..re-read your instructions and just check she is not peaking at a low number? I kept a very carefull chart to actually see the peaks it's much more readable that a set of numbers! Try charting her reading on a piece of graph paper you;ll be amazed at how it looks so much clearer.

I have used it before on others girls but not on this girl , I started using it on day 2 and got a reading of 90 , next day 100 and it has then fluctuated between 110 and 130 each day , then today 140! I have all the graphs from past uses but the peak has varied between 700 and 910 which is why I'm confused this time , still the fact that she missed after being mated on the usual 11th and 13th day may just mean that she is a late ovulater and maybe I must be patient but it's not easy , I fear that I'm going to miss her altogether!

Most of my bitches have not been ready to mate until day 15 and one not until day 18 so bitches can and do vary, and I know of bitches mated on day 23.

Hi Sedona sorry don't know about the daminski. You could just try this, but you may already know that when her bleed goes to a pale pinky or slightly yellowy colour then this is the right time. I have only had 2 litters with the same mum and it has worked both times. Just use some white kitchen roll to dab at her "lady area". Good Luck and I hope you manage to mate her successfully.

Wouldn't have working with one of mine...she bled like a stuck pig for 23 days, mated once on day 19, she wouldn't stand again! 12 pups resulted....!!!! Long gone now, bless her... RIP Tara.

Never found the colour of the flow any indicator of when to mate. Have had bitches with little or no colour after the first couple of day and ones that bled for a month, each getting in whelp when the dog said they were ready.

Me too never go by colour, my last female was still very red when we mated her, blood test said she was ready, i thought no she is too red, result 11 puppies
I think many people are still stuck on the mate between day 12-14 theory. Two of my girls are day 16/17 girls - my youngest bitch had her first litter in May - did bloods on day 10 although convinced she wasn't ready - just wanted a guideline and was told to mate within next 72 hours! Mated following day and both I and studs owner thought she was still showing too much colour but we had a good tie and again 2 days later - result 11 puppies!
Just trust the Draminski if you know what you're doing - or use bloods to confirm if she's ready.
Good luck

Thanks everyone for the replies , I guess I'll just have to trust the Draminski and keep on testing her everyday till it says she's ready ! Leaving her with the stud dog for a few days is not an option unfortunately , I need to get the right day and it's a 10 hour round trip!
we bought a draminski last year girlfriend panicked i prefere premate so we used the draminski and the premate and over the week before she was ovaluting the results were pretty close i used the draminski twice a day morning and night as she got closer i did it 3 times aday both said she was ready within hours of each other the colour show was still red when they were ovulating !!!! but my dog was not interested in her i mated them on the days i was told and she still missed !!!! she was 11 and 13 days by day 15 my dog was much keener i was told it was because he could smell the other dog!!! not sure myself in the past i have used the 12-14 mate twice method but as i was travelling a long distance i used the blood tests i do think you need to give the draminski a chance i would guess she still has not ovaluted i even tested the unit on a bitch that was not in season to make sure i got a low reading and it give me a low reading at 140 i would say she as yet has not ovaluated but i would not wait until she got to 400+ i think nearer the 200 would do for me
i had a 10 round trip to so this is why i used it if the stud dog was a local one or my own i probably would have continued mateing every two days 12=16 say hope your journey is fruitful i have to go through it all again lol

Thanks for that..in despair I emailed the guy who sells the Draminski , he was very helpful but said the readings I was getting were the same as he'd expect from a bitch NOT in season , but that as I'd used it before I was obviously doing it right !! Anyway to cut a long story short I took her on day 15 still not getting any different readings , she was "standing" and the dog was keen so we got a mating and now only time will tell !!
