One of our bitches has decided that her, and others', bed is a good place to pee. I change the bed regularly and yesterday she jumped in whilst I was cleaning it and the little ***&*&*&*** peed. I think she now knows how displeased I was but it hasn't stopped her. She lives outside with 3 other bitches and it is this bed that is usually wet in. She has on occassion also wet in their bed in the house even when the backdoor has been open. She does go outside usually without any prompting and often 'asks' to go out, but sometimes it seems she cant be bothered.
Anyone have any ideas how to break the habit??
I am sure it is not linked to the fireworks as she started doing it well before they started.
She will soon be 2 (if she's lucky!!! <G>)

I have a bitch who is nearly 2 and i have never had this problem, the male has done it a few times. has she been in season yet? is whe doing it for the attension? i have 3 dogs and they all live outdoors they dont come inside unless one is in season or hurt. Have u tried closing her shed door when u think she needs a wee, or going back to basics with the puppy training spray. This is a new one to me as dogs dont usually like doing things in there bed, u could try not changing the bed and she may get fed up being in a pi.......y bed. good luck and keep in touch
Hi Debbie
Yes she has been in season. They do live out but are in the house as wel so the problem with not changing the bedding so she gets fed up with it is the four of them stink to high heaven when they come in the house.
We have both had dogs for more years than I care to remember but we have never had this before. As for attention seeking she is a funny bitch she only comes for a fuss on her terms. She was home bred and was using the kennel run at 7wks old so we cant understand why she has started wetting the bed.

Perhaps she needs to be checked out for a urinary infection? When Pepper had them, she'd pee very deliberately in front of me, even though the outside door was open

If it's not that, it could be that she's peeing on a specific dog's bed as statement of superiority to that dog, or even at you  :O She'll go where she wants to go, so there!!
If you haven't been paying attn. to her, that action will certainly guarantee an instant eyeopener on your part, that's for sure

:P :(
whatever the reason, good luck on figureing it out and repairing it :)
toodles
Hi LD, Eog has a point there with the urinary infection, cos I just remembered a few yrs ago my Sweepy peed in the living room in front of me & it turned out she had cyctitis & within a couple of hours doing that her urine was streaked with blood. Other than that I can`t help, sorry.

this is a crazy problem you have, i have never heard of a dog doing this after the puppy stage. i change my dogs bed every week it doesnt cost much because i get the blankets from a rag mill. but mine dont come in doors because they can not stand the heat. cleo only comes in when she is in season and i have to seperate them. she has a cage for the kitchen because she is chewing at the moment i have no idea why buti suspect it is because all her pups have gone, i hope it is only that because i an going to have to fix the shed again. the things we have to do for our dogs it is never ending. good luck with the weeeeeeeeeee

Take the beds away completely through the day and just put them back at night. Take her out last thing before you put the beds back so she has had an opportunity to empty her bladder. This may break the habit.
Hi Lara
The dogs have paper bedding in the bed in the kennel which is in a big box bed so it would be difficult to remove, it seems to be during the night or day when she is out she is doing it the most. We have 6 bitches altogether who come in the house during the day and as they are not allowed on the furnature they have large cushion beds to lay on whilst they are in. If I remove these the others will have nothing to lay on and if you have visited our website you will see that they all like to lay together in a heep in the beds. As for taking her out last thing at night they all go out for a wee before they have their supper last thing at night before they go out to the kennel.
I really am puzzled as to how to stop it. They all look like having to have a bath every morning if I cant find a solution.
I dont think it is an infection.
She is a very pushy bitch and just wonder if has to do with marking her territory now that she is finding her feet in the pack, but she is by no means the dominent one. The top dog is her mothers sister but she is now nearly ten.
Another point
We had the 'their garden' flagged a few months ago and when it was first done she wouldn't even walk on it so wondered if this could be the reason. She seems to be OK now about going out on it and will do what she needs to do on it.

She seems to have overcome her reluctance to walk on the flags - especially if she is toileting on them now, unless that was when she first started peeing in the beds and it has just carried on.
She could be confused about her status and her adolescence and trying to mark the place - or she could have just taken a backward step in the housetraining. Can be difficult when dogs live outside.
Peeing everywhere is a really manky habit especially in your own home and constantly washing dog beds can be a real pain. I know - I have an incontinent GSD who has control of his bladder but not his bowels (however I know for definate that is down to age/illness and not behavioural) so he is excused. However, his access to the house is limited to an easy to clean floor - definately not the carpets!
Could you not replace the paper in the box bed and the beds indoors with something like a cushioned piece of judo mat or similar which you can just wipe clean but is soft to lie on? She may be less inclined to wet that. I haven't been on your website but your dogs sound really companionable all curled up together.
It's also difficult when you have several dogs sharing to keep a good note of if one is drinking more than usual.
Not an easy one for you unfortunately, but good luck anyway.

Hi
Just a thought was she trained to paper as a baby,
I can`t use paper bedding for the same reason yet they are fine with any other kind of bedding.
