We have recently taken on a Wire Fox Terrier of eight months. We don't intend to show her, but we would like to have her professionally stripped. However, we believe that she may have had her coat cut when she was younger, as it is not particularly "wirey" and is not long enough to be eight months of continuous growth. Is it still possible to have her stripped and re-establish her rough coat?  Any advice gratefully received.

I have Airedales, and imagine a WFT's coat is pretty similar.  If it has been clippered once or twice, it may be possible to get it back in shape for stripping.  It's probably best to let it grow out again before trying to strip.  It may take a few cycles of stripping to get it coming back through nice and wiry.  Bearin mind that at 8 months, she may still have quite a bit of soft puppy coat in there anyway.

In Airedales, some never really have the correct wiry coat even with stripping, though I don't know if this is the case with WFT's?

If it was my WFT, I would try stripping some on the top coat out ,there will still be some puppy coat, which has to come out to allow the adult coat to come in, best advice is to take  your terrier to a groomer who hand strip's, once clipped, it takes a long time to come back in the proper texture, terriers if not shown are usually clipped, I  strip all the terriers that come into me for grooming except for 2 oldies!!
They may use a stripping knife also, not so keen on that either, breaks all the hair! :-(

If it's only been clipped once or twice it should come back ok, specially as she's so young and the adult coat is still developing.
