Hi,

I have a 5 1/2 month old female I am looking to breed in the next few months with a male LLaso Apso. No paper's. Just want to keep one of her pup's and her as part of our family. I live in the Central Valley, California and would like to keep it close to home. If you know of anyone willing, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Brenda

If your post is to be taken on face value, and your pup is 5 1/2 months old, then you wshould not be contemplating mating her in the next few months, which I assume witll be her first season.

It is accepted in most breeds that the earliest to breed a litter from a bitch is two years old, with perhaps a minimum of 18 months for the small fast maturing breeds.

If she is 5 1/2 years old then she is too old for a first litter.

Also you will nedd to have her eye tested!

5 1/2 months old female is way to young. Either on her 3 rd heat or 2 years old, whichever comes first. Thats what I was told with my boston Terrier. The Lhasa apso is also a Brachycephalic breed so I would check into that before breeding her.

It would be easier and propable cheaper just to buy another pup, if you like her lines then go back to her breeder. At 5.5 months you can't know yet how she will mature so perhaps you would be better to buy in from a different line anyway, just in case she develops some problem, you would not want two poorly dogs.

PLease please do not even consider breeding from this puppy, she is only a baby and it will stunt her growth and she may not be able to nurse them properly. Even breeding at the second season is usually too young. Let her grow up first, she should be at least 16 months and pref about 2 yrs before she is bred from. Breeding is not as easy as most people think and can end up (see posts on breeding forum ) with a C section/spay - no live puppies and a huge bill. Why not buy a bitch puppy for a companion for her, it will be much more fun and probably less expensive in the long run. Very few breeders make a profit when they do "things right" and surley you want to do the right thing by your lovely puppy?
