I have been looking at dog blasters and there are so many on the market to choose from i just don't know where to start.
I am looking for a free standing one which can be moved rather than one attached to the wall.

I have a Bernese and currently using my own hairdryer on him, which to be honest is getting silly now, taking ages to dry.

I don't need to be buying the top end as i know the mid range of most things are just as good.

Any tips?

We have poodles and bernese, both of which get shown.  We use a tornado 93 dryer/blaster - it allows me to have the dryer for the poodles and the blaster for the bernese.  It is a good enough blaster but if I only had bernese I would go see Carol Flatt at Dezynadog as she has the most amazing blasters which are about twice as strong as mine and will really staighten out any kinks in a bernese coat (I'm determined we will have one when we get a new show pup!) They are not cheap, I think about £500-£600 (I could be wrong but you could look up their on line catalogue) but will last forever and the back up service you get with dezynadog is brilliant unlike some other companies I could mention.  She also has some cheaper ones but if you want to show you really have to spend the money to get the coat finish you would want, if it was just to dry off dogs coming in from the wet a cheaper one would do.

I've got the Metro Air Force Commander from HUB International. There are two different ones and paid (at the time) about £120 - £130. I use them on my Goldens so is powerful enough.

whats the difference between a blaster and dryer and what coats do use them on?

The blaster uses powerful air to blast the water out of the coat, they don't use heat so don't dry the coat out.

I have a Metro blaster,bought as new off E Bay and cost me £100.Its fab.Really don't know how we managed before.Trouble is after blasting my girl last week her coat seems to be all over our lane and not on her!!!Well at least its not on my carpet!

if theres no heat to the balsters do the dogs get a bit cold with just air on their wet fur?

As it warms up,it blows warm air,not cold .

Thanks for that i was expecting to pay about £500 for one, i have seen some into the thousands which is not what i plan to spend.
I'll look at the ones you have recommended fifi, thanks for that and for everyone who has responded. I do need to get the kinks out of his coat, so it looks a good buy.

The only heat is from the air blowing over the motor as the motor warms up so really is only lukewarm.

Just wanted to point out that it wasn't really cold air,still surprising how warm it gets,like a warm summer breeze!!!!
