Agree 100% about the playing too, our bitch was very careful, too careful we thought, with our new puppy and while he still had his ''Puppy License'' lol But now he is nearly 7 months old and the ''puppy License'' has expired she doesnt let him get away with so much, wont let him nick her bones anymore and they have great playtimes, sometimes rough and sometimes not, depends on their mood :)
It really does sound like she is just having fun with her baby girl after all the pup will grow up and its good to have boundaries between the 2 which they understand and get to grips with by play :)
Why not join in with a tug toy or treat training to distract the pup/mum if your unsure of how rough they should play :)
Honestly, it took me a couple of months to get used to Stafford play ( I know you dont have staffords but you can imagine the shock of the noise lol) and how rough they get sometimes lol but it IS the norm for all dogs and puppies! :)
