Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Puppy Age and Classes?
- By jackson [gb] Date 16.09.08 11:10 UTC
My puppy will be exactly 9 months of age at a show we want to enter. Is she still eligible for Minor puppy, or out of this class and eligible for the Junoir class?

Thanks!

Minor puppy is for puppies of 6 and not exceeding 9 months on the day of the show. She won't be over 9 months so she's still eligible for entry in Minor Puppy. A day later and she'd be too old! Is there a Puppy class? That might be better than Junior.

Thankyou very much.

There are minor puppy, puppy and junior classes. If I go I will enter the puppy class, but wanted to do two classes, as the show is some distance from us in Scotland and I am in Northern Ireland, so it also involves a ferry ride.

However, all that said, she hasn't even done her first show yet, which is on the 27th, so I'll see how she goes in that before entering shows further afield anyway.

Thanks once again.

What is her date of birth and what is the first day of the show - you may still be able to do MP and Puppy!

Thanks. Her date of birth is 08/02/08 and the date of the show is 08/11/08. I thinkt hat means she can still do puppy and minor puppy then?

Hiya - yes she can :)

Rachel said it, but it's a bit of an odd rule so I'll just point it out separately in case it's missed - although probably doesn't matter in this case, but it's a useful thing to know.

Age classes are calculated from the FIRST day of the show. So, if you had a four day championship show and your breed was scheduled on the fourth day, when your pup was 6 months to the day, you couldn't enter.

As I say, probably doesn't apply in this case, but useful to know.

Also bear in mind, if you know, whether your puppy is mature or immature for her age. If she's looking pretty mature for 9 months, you might well want to experiment with Puppy & Junior rather than MP and Puppy. :-)
