how early do others do scans? ive heard some do it from as early as day 14 which i would have thought would be far too early? and the best days are between 28-32? what do you all think? ans how early is ok?

I usually have mine done around 41/2 to 5 weeks should get a good pic then

I had my girl scanned on day 28 and the picture was amazing, could see the pups so clear :-)

4 weeks.

I scan my girls around day 19/20 and can see pups if pregnant.

I wouldnt scan too early  .....pups could still reabsorb  41/2 -5 weeks seems good

my scanner likes to do them  from 30 days onwards

can scanning before 4-5 wks enhance the chances of reabsorbing? or is it just a risk as they may reabsorb at a later date and possibly need scanning again?

I only scan (or more often have palpated) my bitches to confirm pregnancy, by five weeks I would expect to be pretty certain they were pregnant unless the litter was small so wouldn't need a scan that late.

A litter can of course ba absorbed or lost any time before or after birtth.

Last litter - had a scan at 28 days which confirmed 6 puppies had implanted but only 4 viable (with heartbeats). The vet said the lining of her uterus looked a bit thickened in places so to play it safe my bitch was put on Clavulox for the rest of the pregnancy plus 5 days post whelping.  Happily she went on to have the remaining 4 puppies.  I wonder if this would have been the case had she not been scanned early.
