Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Not dull -just panicking, but when will her milk arrive ? (locked)

Typing this I know seems like a really daft question, you wud never think that this is her 2nd litter. I seem to be really worried this time, tho I think it has something to do with the fact that I will be doing it alone ( with Nel) so to speak. She - Nel -is now 63 days in and although she has put on weight, seems to be carrying differently to last time , not low at all, and is not showing any signs of milk in her teats. I have been surfing the net all afternoon, rung the vet ( receptionist not very helpful really) but cannot find the answer to this  "SIMPLE " question. When will her milk arrive.?? Potentially she should be dropping pupies now ... then they would have no milk to suckle.... should I be worried, or wait til she is actually in labour..?  Please help, all answers and knowledge will be gratefully received  - and yes .. I am blonde ( sorry !! )

Hi,

Dont worry her milk will come down once labour starts and puppies start to suckle, i was really worried with my girl too (and yes i am blonde!!! :) )

It varies. My girl is on day 61 and has had milk for a few days already. For others the milk comes down when they give birth, more or less.

Hi

My girl had 4 pups a week ago and I still haven't seen any milk.  LOL
No crying pups, all putting on weight and growwwing well.
Can't believe how tucked up she is with only slightly enlarged teats, no droop or anything.

My girl was like that last time, a bit more obviously feeding this time but not much milk to be seen yet very good weight gains.

BIG THANKYOU to everybody who has replied and made me feel a whole lot better.  You will be pleased to know that since my last log I have been to Pets at Home and Invested a Tenner in the Book of the Bitch so all set for some serious reading later tonight I think. I have resigned myself to the fact that this is "Normal" and that no amount of willing or wishing for milk  will make it appear .. I actually do have to practice patience.( I will also ignore the single magpie I spotted on the return trip. ) Again tho, on a serious note, I do want to thank you all for your swift responses, and when I have some good news I will be sure to let you all know. Wish us luck. xo xo xo

You should have greeted it with "Good afternoon Mr Magpie, how's your family?" then no bad luck happens. :) I do it all the time (especially on the way to shows!!), hubby says I'm nuts, LOL.

I'm a serial single magpie saluter too!! :-)

Good luck with your pups - I never see any milk either - as long as the pups are putting on weight and are settled!  I'd rather it be in their tums than be in places to be seen with my eyes ;)

OOOO I've never heard of this , I always look for another one :-D We didn't have many magpies in our area until fairly recently, The must be moving north eastwards. We used to see loads on our way to Glasgow though, especially on the way to shows in that direction. If only I'd known we could have won a whole lot more :-D ROFL

Locking this as the OP has the answer and it has gone a tad off topic :) :)
