Hi Guys, Can you help me please? We have a young 9-week-old Lhaso male puppy, Billy. The only teeth he has coming through are the back ones, like tiny sharp needles(ouch!). There does not appear to be any others yet. He doesnt have a problem eating ... but does anyone know if Lhaso teeth a slow coming?
Thanks guys
Terry(& Billy)

does he have any teeth at the front at all?
no not one - he is all gummy - you cant feel anything - just the back ones

i dont know if this is a breed specific thing, but he should have teeth at 9 weeks?? are you sure of his age? has he been checked by a vet?

I agree all the breeds I have known have always had needle teeth by then.

we did see the vet yesterday for a puppy check-up. The nurse didnt seem that worried. we are seeing the vet again on Monday. I just wondered if anyone knew if this was a Lhaso thing. Other than that he is very bright and vocal(doesnt like being on his carrier for bed time). We keep him in the carrier at night. We do have another dog(a border terrier) so he isnt alone. He cries like a baby! lol We've been told not to give it to the crying or it will get worse. I am absolutely 100% sure he is only crying cause he doesnt like being in the carrier, as when he is out he is fine.

well i am a nurse and i would be slightly concerned at this? ive never seen a puppy at 9weeks without any front teeth.
when you say carrier, do you mean a decent sized crate or an actual dog carrier? this may be too small. I crated my pup for the first 2 months i had him at night and he stopped crying after 20mins the first night and was settled. he would cry to let me know he needed the toilet and afterwards i would put him straight back to bed where he would fall back asleep.
im sure others will be along to offer more help soon
Hi Suz, the carrier is actually about 3ft by 2ft, so I suppose it should be called a crate. Toby is always around so he isnt alone. I am sure is just a cry baby. But like I said we are seeing the vet again on Monday, thanks for taking the time to chat. Cheers Terry, Billy & Toby

ok, i was worried it was like a cat carrier! that sounds a good size. have you tried tiring him out before bedtime?i used to spend 10minutes doing a play and training time with my pup at that age, then let him out for a last pee and put him into his crate, seemed to work. good luck

Have you spoken to his breeder about it?

Lhasas are notoriously slow to get their teeth so don't worry.
Just found this ... Lhasa puppies are much slower maturing than many other breeds. On average, puppies learn important social skills, such as bite restraint, from playing with their mother and littermates between six and eight weeks old. However, some Lhasas still don't have teeth at eight weeks and they can't learn bite restraint until they get their teeth.
I shall still see my vet, but this makes me feel a ickle bit better, thanks guys xxx
thanks tooolz
