not used with weaning puppies (have never bred) but i use it for my boy, and he loves it, always finishes his bowl and looks great on it. it is mixed with dry food though, use it to add a bit of variety. Also use natures menu as well, he loves them both. hes a 9month old ridgie
thankyou suz1985 ,just tried them but i dont think there hugrey yet lol ,but im going to keep tring them with it !! x
joanne

My boy had
nature diet from 11 weeks but over the following months went off it. He now has
natures menu and
natures harvest mixed with his dry food (AG and orijen ). He totally went off puppy versions of everything at about 7 months so has adult now!( He is 10 months now ) The puppy version of nature diet seems denser!
His poos are lovely and his coat is shiney and he has boundless energy. I can highly recommend all of them - they are good quality foods IMO
im glad ive got it now ty !!!
no im not glad pups not eat it any help here plz !!! thay just dont want to wean ?

White Lilly.. sorry you seem to be struggling... sometimes pups need to be encouraged to eat solids...
I usually start of with some thawed mince beef (it must be frozen 1st) .. take tiny amounts and roll into a small ball with the palm of your hands.... take each pup individually onto your lap and try feeding the mince to puppy... it takes a little time.. and normally they begin to suck the mince... it gets very messy.. but once they have had a taste, its all systems go... After a few meals like this.. I begin to give them their food in bowls... I stay down on the floor with them.. and dip my fingers into the bowls and allow them to take it that way.. after a week, usually no hesitation.. and are banging on the kitchen door for meals...
Dont allow mum into them before meals... they may just be filling up on mum and not wanting to take anymore food... small tummies fill up quite quickly... ;-)

LOL You could try mashing it with some water or puppy milk to make it really sloppy so they can lap at it. You might have to put some on your finger and let them sniff and taste it - maybe wipe a little on their gums! Then gradually make it drier until it is just the puppy food :)
hi kayc and killichick ,i keep putting it in there mouth and adding puppy milk ...thay just run away !!! i leave them 4hours after mum as feed them so thay must be hungery? ive tried pro plan.... baby rice....natures harvest ....now im off to get some eggs before shop shuts lol ,hubby had the last 2 lol ..

I'd go back to basics and get her tum stable before adding new foods. Fish and potato, chicken and rice etc, but stick to one thing until things are stable. Only then try introducing something new. Give her tum a little rest by missing out one of her meals (I assume she's on 3 meals a day?). I'd suggest Naturediet or something with identifiable ingredients, definitely NOT pedigree/beta etc.
hi pedlee ,yes 3 meals a day and when she 6months she will be on 2 , yes im going to do the rice and chicken today and untill het tum is ok but then its still what food do i give her ? :(

I agree with pedlee - rest her system, give her small portions of either steamed white fish
or boiled chicken and if she tolerates that add either thoroughly mashed potato (unsalted, no dairy)
or over cooked rice to build it up.
I've used NH, NM and ND moist completes and think the Natures Harvest one is probably the better of the three :) My pup adores it.
The good thing about these moist completes are that ingedients are kept to the absolute minimum so if there is a reaction to the food it's fairly easy to make an assessment of which it was, i.e. a meat/poultry cause or rice for eg. The downside is that for a breed the size of your own it's quite expensive to feed long term, however in the short term while her system is in recovery it's ideal to move onto something like that when she begun passing firm motions on the home prepared food.
If/when you decide to move onto a dry complete look at brands which use minimal ingredients and are wheat, maize {corn}, gluten free for starters then rule out any which have
multiple meats or grains. Better to have something where if it's a lamb based food it's not basted in chicken fat for eg., as chicken may be something you're needing to avoid. I also wouldn;t buy food which states "animal derivatives" as it could be a multitude of different species and that's a no-go area IMO with a dog suffering sensitivity or intolerances.
I wouldn't use Pedigree at all as I've always had problems with dicky tums even using their treats - TBH, it's quite common for it to be referred to as "too rich" for some breeds/individuals (not how I'd describe it but there you go!)
HTH, Teri
thats helped me alot teri thankyou :) :) x

My Bernese had very upset tummy from the age of 18 months, tried all the foods on offer then went on to Healthy Paws, have never looked back, he now has all sorts of toppings on his food, and marrow bones so it must be something in the biscuts have a look here
http://www.healthypaws.co.uk/about-us.php ...after his first meal on this he never had another loose pooh honest

Oh but I do know now that cooked chicken does not agree with him at all ..and turkey how strange ...but at the time everytime he had the runs I was cooking him chicken and rice..
its been a horrible few days when our beresse started with the runs sickness followed :( we rang our vets thay told us to starve her 24h so we did ! i then gave her a very small amount of rice and white fish ,she still had the runs so yesterday she didnt eat again :( ,today shes had some white fish ,her poos are harder now so i think she has a bug ,but she does suffer runny poos ALOT ,could it be the rice that dont agree with her? shes going sooo thin but i just dont know what to do ,i canrt give her lots because she may give her runns agian ? i am giving her fish every 2h now and shes keeping it in and her ppo is hard !! shell i try mash potatoes with the fish next ,i dont want to give her rice , but can any of you tell me please is there a food out there that dont have rice in it ?
butler thankyou ive looked ,looks very good wonder if there do free samples ? x
and im going to try chicken on its own tomorrow :0 x

Hi white lilly,
it could certainly be the rice that she's introlerant to (not as unusual as some may think!). Personally since she's OK with it I'd stick with the fish only for a few days now since she's probably got quite a bit of internal inflammation going on with repeated bouts of D&V.
Once your confident that she's had her system rested (obviously no further bouts of D&V) then go with the mashed potato - small amounts added at a time to the fish.
Hopefully within a week you'll notice a steady enough improvement before having to look for something to put her on permanently. If you want to go down the dry complete route Wafcol, Arden Grange and (I think ....) now Burns all do potato and fish diets.
On apersonal note I think I'd be looking into a home prepared/raw diet for this girl, especially in view of the weight loss, but it's a bit of a minefield when starting out due to health problems so I can understand it's not for everyone.
HTH meantime,
Teri
thankyou terri i will keep her on it for few more days and keep my fingers crossed it goes !! she is due to be wormed should i wait? also can i give her some natural yogart with good bacteria in it to replace what shes lost? xxx

Unless you've reason to believe she needs worming then I wouldn't give her any treatment until her GI system is fully recovered and remained stable. Re probiotics, I wouldn't use dairy ones at this stage. You can get non-dairy probiotics from health shops if you want to use them.
Has your vet given you anything like pro-kaolin for eg? There are a few variations which help to firm up stools while soothe the gut etc and some have probiotics in them which IMO is a safer bet at the moment.
regards, Teri
thats great again thanks teri xx
hi just want to thankyou teri for all your help with berrnie ,she is now eating white fish and potatoes and NO loose stoles :) ,so it was the rice now ive been looking in to some but carnt find one for large breed (wainrights) (sorry about the spelling lol) do 1 for pups and the price is good to its about £28 at pets at home for 15kg !!but its not large breed ? is there anything i can give her to compencate this ?

The only difference between normal puppy food and large breed is kibble size and that the large breeds make up is more like the adult maintenance, or lower in protein and fat than standard puppy food to discourage over fast growth.
It is really a sales gimmick.
thanks brainless ,youve awnserd what ive always thought !!:)
well shes been on iy for 2days now and her poo is hard YAY!!! so its the rice she carnt have any more and the price of the new food is great too ,so im happy now :) :) x
ok our girl as been on weinwrights for 3weeks now ,to start with her poo was hard ! but now its like slop again (soory) im at my wits end with this !! she carnt eat rice as this gives her the runs but now the fish and potato is ....i just dont know what to do ? help!!!!

Has she been vet checked for giardia, campylobacter, SIBO? A stool sample would possibly get rapidly to the cause here.
All being well, perhaps you could consider trying her on a home prepared diet? She may be intolerant to some of the ingredients in the kibbles you have tried or at least intolerant of how they are processed - some dogs can't cope with for example roast chicken but can eat it boiled, or can't cope with lam in dry completes but can eat fres lamb.....
Get her vet checked first to rule out parasite causes and then discuss options re diet. Be open minded - hopefully your vet will be too and not stick her immediately on to a cure all prescription diet (they have their much needed place but are often just TOO convenient ;) )
hi teri ty where at the vets tomorrow with her
i have 2 other dogs and thayve never had the runs since weve had her and still are ok so dont other dogs chatch any of these?
how much am i likly to pay for a poo sample to be sent off ? of course i will pay i just wanted to try and prepair my self lol
the runs seem to come and go ? at the mo its been 2days and then it starts to go hard (sorrylol) for about 4 weeks and goes runny again ? does this sound like it could be campylobacter.....sibo.....giardia ?
i can see this is going to cost me an harm and leg lol ,any useful info i can take to vets with me plz i would be very greatfull x x x
