Is it possible to have something like a little bug living in our ears like the dogs do?  A friend of mine keeps on having a fluttering feeling in her ear and she says it doesn't feel like something is actually in there and it doesn't hurt, but the fluttering is starting to get her down.

I have had a look but can't see anything.  I have suggested going to the doctors which she will do, but I just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Yes it is possible.
Not trying to give you a horror story but my uncle had a live moth in his ear for several days. Not sure how he got it but Doctor said he probably walked past a bush or something and it went in. He had to have his ear syringed to kill the bug and then it was tweezered out.

You can of course get smaller bug/mites in there too.
I think a trip to the doctor is needed for your friend.

Does it remaind you of "Tales of the unexpected" when the person got an earwig in his ear it ate its way out, the bad news was it was a pregnant female but had laid its eggs whilst in there! I was about 11 at the time and went to sleep with cotton wool in my ears for the next 6 months.

Tinitus perhaps?

I think also blood pressure can have the affect you describe but I'm not certain ..... either way perhaps best that she sees her GP just in case.

Many thanks for the quick response.  Off to the doctors for her, I will let you know the outcome.

Best place, and fingers crossed it's now't to worry her :)  It must be frustrating at any rate but thankfully she's not in pain.  Update when you can!

My thoughts were tinitus too.

If it is something living then I think they feel the ear with liquid to drown it - years ago remember a friend had a fly stuck in her ear and they drowned it first before using tweezers to get it out - mind you it was very noisy all the time so sounds like it isn't something 'alive'.

Hope she gets it sorted with the GP.

Have just spoken to her, interesting you say about the blood pressure, because she says it's been more prominent today, and yesterday she was very worked up over some personal issues.

Every few months or so, I get exzema (sp) in my ears and have to have drops. Sometimes as the flakes of skin fall inside, it feels like fluttering!
But, my ears are very sore and itchy by then too :(

Thats creepy about the moth thing!! As if that can actually happend!! I agree about feeling itchy

oh my god whistler i have a forky taily phobia at the best of times!! no sleeping tonight for me...

Actually I believe spiders etc. have been found in ears, yuck!!

I would also say tinnitus but as others have said BP etc. can also have certain effects on you also.

GP is definitely the place to go.
