Music & dog behaviour research

I do agree that some dogs have tastes in music. Storm Sheltie is my real music lover, but his favourites are military marches. Wonder what that says about his behaviour? (Hint – his other name is ‘Captain Mainwaring’ :D)

I know my dogs are calmer when I've left the radio on all day regardless of what music style is on it.
But I do feel like the Pied Piper if I pull out my recorder or cello to practice on --- both are immediately there listening, no matter how long the 'session' is. Even if I'm making a lot of mistakes :O :P :rolleyes: ;)

What's wrong with that? Especially since the research can affect dogs' behaviors so that they are more 'attractive' to potential adoptees?

There are hundreds of breed rescues and general welfare groups out there Sara that struggle every single day of the year to make ends meet. They put every penny they raise into caring for the dogs that need their help. If the NCDL want to blow money then why don't they *blow* it towards other rescue organisations that are struggling to survive :-)

PS Mine have the TV on if we have to leave them for a bit in the mornings. Kilroy Silk is usually on and for some reason they are sleeping when my husband returns LOL

My dogs unfortunately don't have a choice of what music they listen to :)
At the moment they are probably sick of Elvis!

All of my dogs have their own special songs which I sing to them when they are having cuddles etc.

Of course it isn't mad, my Braid used to recognise Crocodile Rock and come running with his caterpillar and bounce about shaking it. Mum sings Rockabye Baby to Cava and he sits with his head on her knee and dozes off

Duchess (7month Aussie) loves music. We used to put on classical flute music at night when we first got her. Seemed to calm her to sleep and less crying! Now she likes the radio on all the time... any music. My husband says that her song is Ricky Martin's "Shake your Bon-bon"(yeah I know, we're so goofy) case when she is really excited she will run around 'wagging' her whole tushy....it is soooo cute. :D :D We just adore the little dear!

My wheaten terrier used to love singing to the Antiques Roadshow music, but the tune from You've Been Framed used to send him crazy ! :)

Bull terriers love stuff like the punk etc. It makes them have their mad half hour. The antiques roadshow probably makes your dog howl in protest, and as for you've been framed, that drives me mad as well.

Thistle howls when I play the piano or recorder. I swear she sings 'in tune', ie howls a higher note or lower note depending on what I am playing. She also sometimes 'hums', especially to something particularly mournful. We think it is absolutely hilarious, I hope we are right in thinking that she is enjoying it and that she doesn't find it distubing. Does anyone know?
