the furminator brush. just wanted to ask if any of you have used this brush on your dogs and is it all its hyped up to be? i have a alaskan kleekai and wondered if it would be good for him?

My daughter has just bought one for her akita and says it is fantastic. She gradually goes over her whole body over a period of a couple of days. She says it can be uncomfortable for the dog if you keep going over the same section continuously so little and often is best :)

When Saatchi blows her coat she looks bedraggled for ages, but this really helps. She looks lovely and smooth instead of a motheaten mess :-D

We tried one at a champshow it certainly got the undercoat out but my dogs were not impressed and I have to say the coat it brought out shocked me. So much so I wouldn't use it (i need my dogs to keep their coats!) If you are not showing though don't suppose that would matter :-) and I know the mess a spitz blowing coats creates LOL.

anworth do you think it takes too much of the undercoat out then? i love my dogs fluffy coat and i certainly dont want to strip it out, at the moment i use a rolling comb on him (went through loads of different burshes at first to find one that worked) and it does get the worst out but he still seems to constantly shed a bit but i guess thats just the breed :-)

It was actually pulling out more than dead coat Dogs would testify to that :-(. My dogs shed for a couple of weeks a year generally (5 dogs so shedding for 3 months of the year LOL as they all shed at different times)  but I have noticed since feeding salmon oil their coats hold much better. Mine only now need a quick going over once a week normally and daily when shedding. I use a very soft slicker (no bobbly ends! it pulls coat) on their body and a comb behind their ears and a quick going over once a week keeps them in good nick.
