Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bitch who hasn't had 1st season at 14 mths old

Can anyone advise me on this subject?  One of my girls, who is the daughter of my other, still hasn't had her 1st season.  She was born here and lives with us and her mum and another castrated male dog.  The other 2 girls from the litter, ( who live with their new families)  had their 1st season 2 - 3 months ago.  Does anyone think it is because she is with her mum? who has now just had her 2nd litter of pups. Does anyone think I should take her to the vets? Help please

I wouldn't worry yet, my younger bitch only had her 1st season at 18 months old, both litter sisters had their 1st at 11 months old, the same as their mother :-)

I have patiently waited til Maggie was 22 months for her season - I wasn't worried though as her mum was 20 months before she had one. Now its fun and games keeping my 6 month old boy and her apart !!

I don't know what a vet would do. I suppose I was quite glad that Maggie had a late season - less cleaning up and "careful" walking to do. If it was me I would be patient a while longer.

Just out of interest, are you worried as you are planning a litter? Plenty of time for that yet.

Aimi x

Hi Aimi, I am hoping to have a litter with her but only after she is 2 years old.  I am hoping to then keep one girl from that litter then we would have Granny, Mummy & Daughter.

My bitch had her first season at 23 1/2 months old, second one 13 months later, we mated her on her second season and she had 9 beautiful pups...........we paid a fortune on tests before her first season, all came back normal, so I would wait, she may just be a late developer like my little girl.

My girl was sixteen months the two girls before her both started at eight and a half months but they were mother and daughter, this ones no relation to them.

Think everything has already been said -but just to re-enforce not to worry - my middle girl had her first season at 15 months, and is now only on her third at over 2-1/2 - whereas my youngest girl has just finished her second season at 14 months - in between all this, my eldest girl (mum of the youngest) is on her third season since the litter :) - All the same breed - huge variation in all three, in their first seasons and cycles :)

There is a huge variation in all the bitches seasons.  I was led to believe that if there are several bitches living together that they had seasons at almost the same time.
