Had a "rescue" phone call today to my co-rescuer, from a lady trying to buy an American Cocker pup advertised in an online free ads "paper". She was distraught at having been told that the pup was left all day alone as the owner had to work long hours, but was worried that pup would only be availabel to be delivered by carrier. Warning bells rang, especially as she said the pup advertised was tiny - ad said it would be 3lbs as an adult! (Adult weight is usually around 20 - 28lbs). Looked at the link to the ad, whihc featured a pretty pic of a buff American Cocker, appareantly perfectly normal size, about 5 or 6 months old. The ad referred to a tiny "tan" ! Asking price - £130!!!! Clicking onto "other ads from advertiser" , this person, supposed to be based in Norwich, had 16 other breeds listed, most single pup or dog, but some with more than 1, some listed as free, but all in the individual ads £130. Reading thorugh the ads it is obvious they had been copied from genuine ads from various breeders, UK & USA based, and the ads were not always for the specified breed, for instance I think the ad we first saw must have been from a Chihuahua breeder originally.
Thsis is obviously a fairly large scale scam, relying on the sob story to push buyers into paying for transport, please, puppy buyers, beware, if it sounds too good to be true - then it is NOT TRUE!!! Don't buy pups "to be delivered/shipped", if scanning ad sites look to see what else the advertiser is listing.
