Topic Dog Boards / Health / Tiny Bald spot??
- By DawnR Date 03.09.08 10:12 UTC
Hi, my 7 month old pup had what looked like a small spot or bite on her leg (where the ankle is in humans).  It didn't bother her at all.  I checked it yesterday and noticed that the fur in that area looked lifted.  I brushed the fur and it came away in a tuft, leaving a bald spot - about the size of a pea.  It doesn't look irritated and I cant see any more.  Do you think I should leave it or get it checked out?

Me again, just had another check and it is actually a bit red and dry looking in the bald bit

could it be a patch of eczema?

hmmm! When we got our boy, he had a few very small bald spots, a few were a bit red and slightly scabby. We thought they were litter mates biting/playing sores. Then they started to spreeeaad! Soon his back, shoulders and a few on his sides. After skin scrapes and months of treatment with maleseb and a high gla shampoo, 3x weekly, it gradually started to go but he was very moth eaten for a while. When he moulted his puppy fur, we could see strange mottled markings on his skin!

We never knew what it was but it cleared after about 4/5 months

hmmm, my boy is covered in small baldy patches and scratches, from playing rough in the park with his friends (hes a ridgeback) every day we have another one after a walk, honestly, theres times he looks moth eaten. hes my first short coated breed, and dont know if ive simply missed it before or if hes exceptionally rough when playing. does your pup play rough?

Yeah, she can be a bit of a 'hooligan'!  Not sure if it looks a bit worse today.  She still doesn't seem too bothered by it though, so I guess I'll just ingnore it for a while.  Thanks for your response though.  Got a feeling it might be a bit of an allergy a she chewed her feet today, no signs of anything there though.
