Hi.
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any good brushes for a sheltie.
I have a four month old baby and need a little help with what are the best grooming tools to use on him.
I have a slicker ( which he hates), A pin Brush could do with another one and a few combs and a undercoat rake.
I am not sure what i have got in my grooming box is right for him.
Not going to any champ shows at the moment so need some where online to buy from.
Thanks
Jo

I have a Rough Collie and I use a synthetic "mason pearson" style brush.  Its good for removing that fluffy undercoat and for general top coat brushing and finishing. I just went to see who made it but the name has worn off the handle, it might be Hindes?  Incidentally, I still use a combs and rakes too.

I asked a Sheltie owner how she got her dogs coat to look so nice and this was what she recommended.

You can get the Mason Pearson ones in Chemists, in various sizes.  I'm saving up for a proper one!

Mason & Pearson here too :)

I have two, one all nylon for wet/damp coat and the other a mix of natural bristle and nylon for finishing off before going in the ring.  There are similar brushes around but TBH you get what you pay for so IMO it's best to get the genuine M&P brushes as they stand up to a lot :)

Do you have a comb with revolving teeth for loose coats that you're trying to tidy up without taking out too much?  Invaluable little tools!

I dont use a grooming table, I get my dogs to lay on a large rubber mat on the floor and I sit down to do the grooming.  But I have large dogs, it might be easier to have a table with a smaller dog?

yes i would use a table if i were you, i use a stainless steel table with rubber matting so the dogs dont slip but any table would do
