Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Diet in boarding kennels
- By bint [gb] Date 03.09.08 08:59 UTC
The dogs are going into boarding kennels for the first time for a few weeks over Christmas. I don't think the owner has enough freezer space for their raw foods and I was wondering what others have done in similar circumstances? My dogs have one raw & one complete meal per day. I've used the same kennels for years with previous dogs & feel comfortable with them but none of my other dogs were on raw foods.
Never tried Naturediet or similar, would something like that be a suitable alternative do you think?
I could ask our supplier to deliver weekly to the kennels I suppose but as they sometimes don't have exactly what I order I'd rather know in advance what they were getting as one of my dogs is a bit picky.
Any advice most welcome.

Why not just feed the complete while they are in the kennels? At least it would be unlikely to upset their digestion as they would be used to the food.

I know, would be easiest. Maybe I should try kennelling them for a weekend beforehand and see how it goes?

Well they're going into kennels for a weekend next month to see how it goes. I've heard some raw feeders use Naturediet (or Nature's Menu) when they holiday with the dogs. Has anyone tried this?

I always use Nature Diet, Natures Harvest and Natures Menu with my dogs when going away for the weekends etc - easier than carrying cool bags full of RMBs or searching out the nearest Asda from a middle of nowhere B road!  It's the closest variation to a home diet I've found and gentle on their tums too even if not eating it regularly.

I'm sure a kennel unable to keep a supply of frozen meats/bones for you wouldn't mind keeping and serving ND or similar for you :)  Of the dogs I've fed/feed exclusively raw none would/will touch kibble or any form of dog treats/biscuit :)

Have you called the kennel to see if they can accommodate this feeding plan?? It may be that they are happy to do this for you.
More and more kennels are going up market and also caring more for the welfare of the dogs and what the owners want.

My friend i taking my dog in when i go on hols in a few weeks. She has her own personal kennels which my boy is going to be in. I said that he is fed raw and she is happy to do this as long as i bag the food up into daily portions, which is what i do anyway.

Thanks Teri, I'm going to look into all 3.

I did run it by him on the phone suejaw but I think it's best I call in at the kennels & discuss it further (which I intended to do anyway). Just want a back up plan in place.
