Hi Briedog, I only done a day trip over to Belgium to take my bitch, but what Defra stated to me was that you cannot enter back into the U.K until 24 hours After the tick and tape worm has been administered and no longer than 48 hours after. I went via Norfolk Line Dover to Dunkerque and her pass port never got checked till the final checking point on re-entering the U.K.
Where abouts are you heading to in Europe?

Does the stud dog owner not have a vet you could use, this is what we did when we took our bitch over to be mated.  Just make sure that everything is signed and stamped in all the correct places and everything should go smoothly.

I may know someone in France who might be able to help, but please reply to his e-mails as I advised other people about him and they never got back to him so he had quite a go at me!!  You may if you wish be able to stay over there.

I'll send you his details tonight.  He's British and moved to France last year, I'm sure that he'll be able to give you some advice and he's really friendly.

Hi Briedog,
when travelling using the pet passport you have to use an approved route by Defra, i.e - Norfolkline or P & O Ferries not sure of other companies as you would have to ask. you could ask the stud dog owner as stated about their vet as that was the route I was going to take until we decided that we would only be having a day trip. Or if you are only having the one mating then you could just have a day trip like I done. Basically Xena had her tick and tape worm done on 3/08/08 at 15:30 we left on the 8.00 am ferry on 4/08/08 and caught the 20:00 ferry back on 4/08/08 but I could have stayed longer as long as I had of been in the port in the U.K by 15:30 on 5/08/08. hope this has helped :-D

I believe the dog does not have to be IN THE PORT IN UK by the time the 48h closes.
I hope not as we have counted so that ours is in 48 hours when we board the ferry to UK but will not be in the 48 hours when we actually get to UK!
Borrowed from Defra site:
"Your pet must be treated against ticks and tapeworms not less than 24 hours and not more than 48 hours before it is checked in with an approved transport company for its journey into the UK."
Link: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/procedures/support-info/parasites.htm
Please tell ma I have not misunderstood it all!

I am just repeating what the chap said on the phone, but you can always call them and ask they are very helpful :-) I called them several times before I made the journey just to check that I had got it all right, but as I was only there for a day trip i wasn't so worried about the re entering time into the U.K

as you went on a day trip did you have a cert from your vet for tick/worming for your return trip.

this may be a better way for explable go to the vet a 9 am in the morning get t/f cert then i got a round trip to get back in the uk bye 8pm 47 hours later,

am i right on this question ?
