Looking to go on holiday on new years day while our business is closed.  Has anyone booked a holiday before on line, and if so can you recommend any safe sites with cheap deals?

MSC cruises with iglu travel. All went very well.
Our trip to Edinburgh was all on line too.
So generally confidence high here for it.

I book all my holidays online.  In UK I've used cottages4U and Mackays Agency both very good.  Going abroad I've just booked flights with easyjet and then booked a hotel wherever we've been going.  For holidays via a travel agent Co-Op travel are very helpful and have some cheapies and if you've got more money to spend you can't do better than Kuoni.  All can be done and dusted online and I've never had any problems.

Try "cheap flights" or "Travelzoo". "Last minute.com" is ok or "Expedia". Ditto I do all of mine online off to the Maldives on 21st Sept through travelzoo really cheap.

I,ve used portland direct a few times never any problems and always had a decent hotel.

Better in what way? Quieter? More nightlife? Sandier beaches?

I think I have been talked into egypt by the travel agent so just researching to make sure its hot lol

I'm sure you know this but don't let the travel agent talk you into thinking you can go to the pyramids from the red sea.  Well you can but you'll have to fly.  It's quite far as well.  A friend of mine was going to Hurghada and said they were going on a trip to the pyramids by bus :O  Well maybe they were but it would have took days.  Make sure you know whats on offer.

On the other hand, if you are going to Cairo/Luxor why not get 3 days in Cairo then fly down to Luxor and do either a hotel or a mini cruise.  Believe me - it will be hot.  Very hot :)
