Hi, I own a 1 year old dalmation and I am considering putting her on the raw meat diet as her stools are always loose on whatever food I put her on, I am going to order the meat from Durham Animal Feeds and I was just wondering what people's thoughts are on this diet? And how much of differnet types of meat people feed to their dogs as I am new to this diet? Thanks Alex

with dallys you need to watch the purine levals (not the protein as most think) there are lots of advice on this type of feeding on the BDC club website and the american dalmatian club website. i feed both mine on dry food and add salmon to it up to now, i would surgest a lot of reserch on the net and talk to plenty of dally owners as they are special dogs and if purine levals to high they can suffer stones( so if i got it right you need to avoid red meat, organs and certian veg. chicken skinless and boneless good as well as most fish)
Hi does anyone have the web site for Durham Animal Feeds?Ive tried looking for it but cant find it.
Also i was told Salmon is toxic to dogs?
Thanks

Hmm, that can't be true.
It's currently becoming popular to give dogs Salmon Oil as a dietary supplement, and several dog food manufacturers make recipies that include salmon.

I was ready through a few books on BARF diets and the like and it states that smoked salmon should be avoided, but regular salmon is ok for a dog, hope this brings some clarity

Hm smoked salmon would also be a bit expensive for dogs !

Raw salmon fished from some areas has a parasite which is dangerous to dogs.
Cooked, salmon poses no problem.
