Topic Dog Boards / Health / Undescended testicle

I'm hoping that someone, somewhere will know about this--I brought my puppy home from his breeder at 12 weeks. She had already had him microchipped, docked and examined--oth testicles were descended. I took him to my vet that week and she confirmed that both testicles were descended. I took him to his first show yesterday (puppy dog) at the age of 10 months, and you can imagine how I felt to be told by the judge that he only had one testicle! She was absolutely right, by the way. So my questions are...can two vets get it wrong? Has it been known for a testicle to 'disappear' in a puppy? Is it something I can leave for now in the hope that nature will take its course, or should I be booking an ultrasound scan for him? Thanks for any advice.

First of all, I'm a bit confused as to how you are showing a docked dog of 10 months.  Are you in the Republic of Ireland perhaps?

Anyway, dogs can retract one or both testicles from time to time, and so I'd wait a little longer before worrying too much. All may be well in the end.

A working dog?  Hence the microchip.  These can attend shows where the public do not pay I think.

Yes that's right. There must be some sort of explanation like that I expect. :)

to answer your questions he is a Welsh Springer bred from working stock and I have permission from the KC to show him--the exception being shows where the public pay for admission. Thanks very much for the advice, will wait to see what transpires.
