Can anybody think of any good FUN Fund raising ideas for a dogs home? Stalls, games or anything to get sponsored for?? All ideas welcome. :-D :-)
We did a fund raiser a little while ago and we had a stall guess the weight of the puppy ( newfie ) 50p a go and it raised £70 winner got vouchers that where donated.
Most people don't think of a 11 month old newfie puppy being so big so lots of people had a guess.

You could get a big stuffed cuddly dog and do 'Guess The Name'. Whoever wins takes home the dog.
Are there any dog/bone shaped sweets? You could do 'How many sweets in the jar?'
Or what about 'Pin the Tail on the Dog'
Or a buried bone treasure map. 'Can you find Spot's bone?' Have a big treasure map in squares, buy a square for 50p, whoever gets the right square wins the prize.
Good luck :-)

to late for this year but you can do next...
a couple of friends of mine are doing a Motoscape Banger Rally- basically you buy a car for less than £200 and drive it across Europe to certain destinations doing challenges along the way.
sounds like brilliant fun (they have i think 9 countries to go through) and they are arranging to get sponsored for Marie Curie (they were doing this anyway, our work got wind, whos charity this year is Marie Curie and it seemed a good plan)
so if you have some adventurous people you know who are willing to spend a wee bit (entry £180) then I think its a brilliant plan. if they took a lap top and camera they could keep a blog about the trip to keep everyone interested etc

i did one for our hunt recently....had 2 foxhound pups in a pen...everyone comes over and ooh and ahhs....then you pounce and aske them to guess the names! I had 2 grids, each printed on A3...one dog s and one bitches, each was 10 squares x 10 squares and each square had a name in it. Only one in each grid was correct name and they had to look at grid of names, pay £1 and write their name and tel number next to their guess. I filled all 200 sqauares (£200) and paid out £20 to each correct winner at end of the day. Easy!!

But wouldn't they need to spend an awful lot more than that in expenses travelling so far and for so long unless you mean they raise the rest from the donations

My pet hate is those type of fund raisers that finance peoples holidays of a lifetime.

I know what you mean. Like my well-meaning friend who did a sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China. Nice work if you can get it! She did raise alot of money for a good cause though. I read an article once which basically said something along the lines of 'instead of being so self-indulgent why not do something worthwhile, like help to feed elderly patients in a care home, etc'

not if they chose to pay for it themselves (as my friends are doing)
essentially its a fun trip they decided to do, and have already paid for (except petrol) then thought they might as well make some money for charity. absolutely none of it is coming out of the cash raised.
as i said you'd need some adventurous people who just fancy doing it- sound like a brilliant trip. On Day 1 they will make (or attempt to make) it to Koblenz in Germany via Belgium and The Netherlands. Day 2 from Koblenz to St Gallen in Swtizerland. Day 3 from St Gallen to Cortina D'Ampezzo in Italy. Day 4 from Cortina D'Ampezzo to Bled in Slovenia. Day 5 From Bled to Brno in the Czech Republic and Day 6 from Brno to Krakow in Poland. should be a great laugh. the car is a subaru tank of some kind that they got off of ebay for £165
i will be sponcering them of course and providing a filling packed lunch for the trip to Dover from Dundee :)

Yes, nice work :-) She could have raised a lot more if it was all about the charity and choosing a trip with less expenses to be paid for like trudging through the British weather from Lands End to John O'Groats as they used to.

That is good but rather rare I fear. LoisLane will be lucky to find someone like that.

i hope not, i agree with you- donations should not pay for trips. you never know- mention it to a few adventurous types get the idea in their heads- maybe they decide to go and she pipes up "hey! i've an idea!".
the way al and gav (my friends who are doing it) see it as they wanted to, they will, might as well be some good come out of it. plus our work is big on the fundraising so they have had lots of encouragement in that department.
kinda wish i was going, sound like a great laugh

We've just raised £10 000 to send some of my dance group to Las Vegas. Things we did were...
- Bag packing (raised between £500-£1200)
- Fashion show
- Clairvoyance evening
- Discos for kids (including Back to school, easter, halloween, xmas)
- Dance demonstrations with bucket collecting
- Writing to companies for sponsorship/donations
- Raffles
- Trophy nights
- Race nights
Its amazing how much you can raise if you set your mind to it. We raised this in about 4 months. :) Good luck.

Dog themed:
Dog photography competition
Sponsored dog walk
'Have a go' agility - pay a £1 to give your dog a try on a course or parts of a course. Particularly good if you can have an experienced person who will volunteer to help, you don't want the poor dogs scarred for life by a tunnel!!
Dog face painting - look like your pet!
Pet stuff stall - ask people for donations of unwanted pet related products, collars, leads, bowls toys etc
Auction - see whether you can get local businesses and people to donate goods and services to auction for the dogs home. It would be nice if you can get pet related ones too like free vet consult, 1 hr grooming session, free nail clip, 1 nights free accomodation in the local kennels, food vouchers from the pet shop, 1 hour dog walk, 1 hours pet behaviour consultation etc If you can ask a local celebrity, even a minor one like a DJ to run the auction so much the better.
Decorate a dog house competition - photocopy a line drawing of a kennel and ask the kids to enter their designs. 20p an entry? Offer a prize
Hook the dog - like hook a duck at the fair. Kids love this sort of thing and spend a fortune
Good luck
