My friends Yorkshire terrier has been diagnosed with arthritis. Would a supplement of Glucosamine help, and what dose for a small yorkshire terrier and what strength.

Never used glucosamine before myself. Have a look at this link
http://www.dorwest.com/products.asp?dept=47I have used all what they suggested and my last dog that had it, who is know passed away was just as active as the others on the supplements.

In reply to your post and further to mine of a few weeks ago (copper has stiff legs in the morning - ooer missus). I was just at the vet and asked her about arthritis. He has the beginnings and I said I was giving Cops the pedigree joint care thingies. She said a dog of copper's size 10.85kg would need at least 500mcg at a time to do any good. That means me buying the health sticks for a larger dog and not a medium dog as I had been. A yorkie though would obviously be a lot smaller than a border so best to check the recommended dose with the vet. Vet said it would definitely help and you can get the glucosamine in tablet form. She also mentioned copper collars like the copper bracelets and said clients swear their dogs are much better when wearing them :) I haven't tried those yet.

I put my dogs on glucosamine and chronditian (sp) and noticed a huge difference in about 3-4 weeks- Tiva has slipping knee, arthritis and Junior has arthritis and very stiff- now you wouldn't even know it.
My Border is on it you can get different strengths so consult some more and I recommend buying on line. Chrontium is good as well for the pain.
Bioflow does a coller for dogs as well. Some owners swear by it.

Thanks - I'll try it before the situation gets worse.

I have seen the pedigree joint things in the pound shop, it was a while ago tho but this year! Think they might of been short dated
Brillent isnt it funny thing is I have arthritis and Im on Glucsomine & Chrontium and that advice was from an orthopeadic surgeon and I have very little if any pain now. So whats good for the dog, is good for me - different bottle though!!
