Has anyone got any tips to help my teenage daughter with her zits? I have heard tea tree oil is good.

Steaming your face before cleansing at night and if a really big one looks like its going to erupt overnight a dab of vodka or toothpaste >>>>>

Witch hazel stick by witch.  Works really well.  Just put it on as they are coming up and they disappear again.

not sure of her age obv but 2 of my boys had low dose antibiotics for their achne and it helped, no one should suffer with achne anymore

I agree with Malibu!

I use the witch hazel stick when I see a spot appearing and they soon dissappear! :) Perfect!

I also have the witch hazel face wash that I use daily to just make my face feel cleaner.  I don't suffer from achne, just the odd spots but my boyfriend sometimes does come up quite bad but since using the face wash, it's helped him no-end. (Not that he would admit he uses it and he refused point blank to take one on holiday where his staying with his best mates!!!!! LOL

If she has more than just a few little pimples then definately try the doctor. At her age it's probably hormonal and it can be very distressing (I remember it well !). Antibiotics should help give her a break from them. I'm 45 and every couple of years the doc puts me on a course of antibiotics because something triggers an outbreak.
If however it is just a few then tell her to drink lots of water (to help flush the system out).  Personally I'd steer clear of any of these foaming cleansers - they usually contain nasty things like Sodium Laureth Sulphate which is just a foaming agent (google it - it's scary). Strips the skin of it's natural oils which a teenager shouldn't be doing.

Hope she finds a solution - I know how miserable it can be.

I've read somewhere that top models use sudocrem (the nappy rash stuff :-D) put it on spots before bed time. I always used Clearasil as a teenager (long ago in the mists of time but yes it did exist then :-D ) and had very few spots

Worst thing to do would be to strip more oil from the skin, as this can cause more oil to be produced.  Some over the counter creams / washes can can help initially but cause more harm in the long run.

Not sure of her age, but ensure any make-up is removed at the end of the day, use a light oil free moisturiser.  A gentle exfoliator and maybe a herbal mask once week would be good.

Tea tree oil can b ok if used locally.

Easier said than done try not to pick!

Finally, if inflammed or infected see your gp.

Good luck!

Toothpaste, but dont do like I did, and put it on overnight, cos I woke up with little burns on my skin.  Definately skip whitening toothpaste.  Those burns hurt!

Does anybody know if you can still buy the black head removers? Its a stick with a little opening.
- By DawnR Date 31.08.08 21:02 UTC
Hi, yes, I have seen them on ebay - look for comedone remover.  Posh name for black heads!  Google it too and you get some good results - about £7.00 though.  Best to use after a warm shower or bath when pores are open.

Thanks for that. Who would think Black heads have a posh name. Ha ha ! :-D

Can anything be used to help clear up boils?
- By craigles Date 01.09.08 18:51 UTC
My daughter is 14 and went to Dr's as she had Glandular Fever, the nurse was brilliant and suggested she have antibiotics for her acne, although I didn't consider it to be acne apparently it was, she is overjoyed with the results and I can confirm her skin is lovely, it's like a bingo dabber pen (antibiotic) and she wipes it across her face initially twice a day now just in the evening.  Please go to the Dr's it's worth it for them.

Body Shop sells the blackhead remover tool too - so I've been told ;)

I think the toning solution from Clinique is excellent. It clears spots without over-drying the skin. Ask the Clinique staff which strength to get (they say to move up but I've used number 2 for 20 years) and if they have sample bottle to try.
